The Manhattan Projects, Vol. 2: They Rule (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

After the events of Volume 1, the team at Manhattan Projects (and what a grotesque team it is) has come out victorious. They have won over their adversaries (both earthly and extraterrestrial), but now what? Where is the next challenge? Well, among themselves of course! We have come to know the players of the Manhattan Projects (and even come to love some of them), so now we can put the formalities behind us and really dig into the story. This is a good thing too, because it’s safe to say that Volume 1 was a total mindfuck. And as soon as you bring in the Soviets (and their own batch of kooks), things are bound to get interesting. It’s easy to come together to fight a common adversary, but once you’ve shown them who’s boss it’s time to show your own team who’s going to be calling the shots from now on. It’s politicians and megalomaniacs versus men of science. On one side we have Truman and his Freemason “non-geniuses” who believe it to be their right to rule. And FDR certainly doesn’t like giving up power to scientists, and as the only existing proto-internet entity, he most certainly has the advantage in any attempted coup. On the other hand, we have the scientists who went to great lengths to change the game. They’ve won every battle, so why give up now?The result is a civil war of sorts, and a really bloody one at that. Just like in the previous volume, Nick Pitarra’s art brings things to graphic and gruesome reality, and delightfully so. And, even though the Manhattan Projecters have the brains to come out on top, will their own brains also be the source of their self-destruction? Wild stuff. Right up there with Promethea, The One or The Invisibles. Mad mix of history, insanity, science, politics, and pulp weirdness. Still, my big complaint? Don't care about anyone. Those other wild comic book rides I mentioned have sympathetic characters. Everyone is a mad scientist, a wild politician or a crazed lunatic here. It's all fascinating to watch, but at a remove. Because, in the battle of insanities and evils, who cares who wins?

What do You think about The Manhattan Projects, Vol. 2: They Rule (2013)?

This just keeps getting weirder... and by weirder, I mean better.

I love the bizarreness of it and I need more of it.
