Tante Dimity Und Der Verschwundene Prinz (2013) - Plot & Excerpts
This interesting tale relates what can happen when an imaginative child pulls a super inquisitive adult into her fantasy world. As I read, a small part of my thought process kept harping back to the tales of the lost Princess, Anastasia, and how supposedly she escaped from Russia and fled to the West. This tale had a more immediate ending however, and was fun and well written, with no true villain except perhaps for the child (she stole a silver piece) and Lori, who forced her way into a home in her determination to find out the truth as she perceived it. The old man was wonderful, his nephew almost as charming, and the story was fascinating, if a bit more plebian than the tale of the lost prince. Cute cozy. With Atherton, you know what you get, and what you get with each novel in this series, is a likeable heroine, not too accomplished, well meaning, but as prone to mistakes as we all are; a mysterious communication with Aunt Dimity, which is fairly peripheral; and a fun mystery plot. In this case, the plot is that Lori Shepard meets a mysterious young girl while at a small nearby museum. Shortly thereafter, the girl disappears, and Shepard finds a priceless museum artifact in a jumble shop in the pocket of the girl's coat. Who is the mysterious trapped prince and what relation does he have to the artifact? Where did the girl and her mother disappear to? Shepard alternately fights the winter blahs and develops a sidekick (Bree Pym from a previous adventure)to help her investigate the story. A pleasant diversion.

A cozy mystery. Too bad I didn't read it in February (plot) instead of August!
