Stoneheart #3: Silvertongue - Audio Library Edition (2009) - Plot & Excerpts

I really enjoyed Silvertongue!I would've finished this book in no time had I not become kind of busy and a bit preoccupied. But overall, I loved the storyline, characters, and conclusion. One thing I didn't like was the sudden transition and change in George and Edie's character. It was nice and all...but it felt a bit too sudden. Although the circumstances probably made it possible for such a big change to occur, I would have enjoyed it more if they progressed a bit slower.I applaud this novel for having words I don't know. Some of them were complicated synonyms of every-day words (most of which were uttered by Dictionary) and I enjoyed learning them, although I'll probably NEVER use them. So, anyone into a more ancient, yet at the same time, modern setting with a mix of mythical creatures and Gods and statues that come to life will definitely enjoy this. However, if you're looking for romance, you won't find any here (which I liked). Overall, I'd give this series 4 solid stars. Particularly in my case due to the fabulous narration of Mr. Jim Dale - another narrator who could read the phonebook aloud and I'd be transfixed, he'd make it that interesting to hear. His interpretation of characters and the voices he gave them was phenomenal. Granted, he had solidly entertaining material to work with, as the story is well-written and the characters pretty well fleshed out.I'm pretty sure I missed something while listening to this audiobook, as the method used to resolve the final conflict at the end ("not AMUSED") I have no recollection of hearing how the heroes came to have in their possession. And the voices of Edie and George did get a little annoying at times, but hey, they are 13 year olds in pretty intense situations, so overall, I'll let 'em off the hook. This wasn't my favorite of the three, but it did wrap things up nicely.

What do You think about Stoneheart #3: Silvertongue - Audio Library Edition (2009)?

This is another trilogy that has 13 year olds saving the world. It is is too bad there are no adults left to help. I liked the series very much and found the author improved with each book. The books seems to be a little slow at the beginning of each, but gather speed with each chapter. The story line is a bit adult at times, causing me to wonder if I really should read this to my children, but I think it works if we are reading it together. (The questionable subject is the deaths of parents, children being left alone to fend for themselves, and the accurate depiction of evil in the main villian with his lies and killings.) I think most of the 14 year olds I know would be able to deal with it, so I do recommend it. It was a pleasant fantasy read.

This was good, quick young adult fiction that finishes an intriguing plot line - 'taints vs spits and the makers and glints. While I enjoyed reading this, I didn't find the two main characters completely engaging - George had more redeeming "hero" character qualities and Edie really didn't seem to grow into a strong female lead until the very end. I would still, however, recommend this book since it's a good, clean read without a lot of extraneous detail, sex, or violence.

It was an interesting read though I found it a far cry from the second book in the series.
