Very inventive plot and characters help you really get into this book. The main character is a teen girl who lives secretly with her grandmother in an apartment building for the elderly. She sneaks in and out and one time, in doing so, finds a man dying who hands her three wads of cash. He tells her to get rid of it. This starts Sammy on the case to discover who the man is and where he got all that money. Sammy is a smart, fast thinking girl who goes through some crazy things to solve the mystery. However, having teens in my house, I didn't like the teen drama parts: a sleepover, a pool party, boyfriend trouble. I just wanted to read about the mystery and the crazy neighbor. I thought this book was a very thrilling mystery that left me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Whenever I put the book down and stopped reading, something inside my head would tell me Keep Reading! Keep Reading! And I could never put this book down.There were occasional slow spots, but still, most of the time this book was so interesting and fun to read. I just wanted to find out the culprit of the mystery and finish the book, but at the same time, I didn't want to! Because I knew once this book was over I would have to find another book. Well done, Wendelin Van Draanen. My favorite Sammy Keyes book.
