Love's Unfolding Dream (2004) - Plot & Excerpts

I love Janette Oke's writing style. It's very fluid and easy to follow. Even though this is book 6 in the "Love Comes Softly" series, it's easy to jump in and follow the storyline without reading the previous books in the set. Belinda Tyler is the main character in this book. (Her mother, father, and various siblings were the main characters in previous books.) Belinda is very sensitive and can't bear the pain of even the smallest creatures. And yet, it is her life's ambition to become a nurse and perhaps even a doctor. Her brother, who is a doctor, takes her along on his cases. Soon she is up to her eyeballs in primitive medicine, learning to deal with the horrors of amputation and burn surgeries, while soothing the suffering of her patients. As the book progresses, one of Belinda's former patients becomes a love interest. My only complaint with the book was that I wanted more of the love story. As soon as Belinda and Drew realize they have feelings for each other, the story ends. But to get to that part of the story, you have to read book 7. But it's better to be left wanting more than wanting less. Loved the book. Five stars.

They just keep getting better. I really like how each book ties back to the previous stories and updates the characters. It feels like a sense of completion and all the questions I have about the characters get answered. What I really love is how tragic situations and the pain felt by the characters who go through them are used to show strength and get closer to God. Beautiful stories. There is so much that went on in this book and it definitely kept my attention and even got my adrenaline going at some points. The description of the accidents that Belinda and Luke helped with really made me squeamish, but I loved it. I felt like I was right there witnessing it. The ending of the book was so sweet too, but I won't give that away for those who haven't read it yet.

What do You think about Love's Unfolding Dream (2004)?

Janette Oke writes stories full of good, clean fun as well as a healthy measure of love and faith that hearken back to a simpler time when life meandered by at an easier pace. Clark and Marty Davis and their posterity have lives well anchored in their beliefs and are so caring about others that they often wrap their arms around them and literally take them into their home and even more especially into their hearts. These wonderful stories show how the power of love, faith and prayer makes all the difference!

I noticed your concern about this book not keeping young peoples attention, but I am eleven and I thought you would be interested to know that it was my very favorite book in the whole eight book series! I agree with you on the protrayal of the power of prayer, it was very inspiring to me to.

Janette Oke does such a wonderful job with this series of books. (It's overall a tie with this series and the Abram's Daughter's series by Beverly Lewis.) If you enjoy Pioneer life and reading about other that struggle in life but have that Faith in God that things will be okay then you will fall in love with Marti and what started out as a marriage of convenience but soon turns into love as Love Comes Softly. For those of you who have watched the movies and enjoy them TRUST me you will FALL IN LOVE with the books! Movies are only very loosely based on the books which at first I couldn't watch 'cause I was so aggravated due to the movies being so off from the books. But I did watch them and they are very nice to watch but you have to not try and remember the books as you watch. The series is wonderfully written and the more you read the more you will want to read so make sure you have the next book handy when you get about half way through the one you are reading
