Una divertida novela gráfica que engloba las quejas, perversiones, ilusiones, deseos y conocimiento que Bourdain ha compartido en sus otros libros acerca del mundo de los restaurantes, la cocina, los cocineros, los ingredientes, los comensales, etc. Bastante entretenido reconocer en las ilustraciones, lo que he leído descrito pero nunca comido, como las anguilas y otros platos asiáticos o el famoso (?) ortolan (!). Si te gustan los comics y te gusta lo que hace Tony Bourdain, debes leerlo ya. Reading this book is a total joy. I loved every word of it. This book illustrates the skillful, could I say 'cutting', use of the comic-graphic novel as an art form.Anthony Bourdain is the lead writer here and is a well know chef and Travel Chanel personality. He brings his knowledge of expert food buffs and the things they eat into some really good background here. He also seems to have seem a few too many spaghetti westerns in his youth, and steals, but not too openly, parts from many a one here. And all to very tasteful effect.This saga is set in the near future, in Los Angeles, Cal, where organized crime has been taken over by some pretty brutal top chefs, who are running their restaurant chain empires with the tactics and efficency of drug-czars. Into this comes Jiro, the new kid in town, who is trying to open is own sushi bar and is forced to... Ok. No more said. From here on it gets a little wierd.There is lots of violence here. Hand to hand, up close and bloody violence. Nothing that children should be exposed to. But...At this point I have to start saying that artist Langdon Foss uses his graphic skills with the deadly efficency of a master sushi chef. All this grim violence is done with the sincerity of a '50's Richie Rich comic. This helps you to remember that this is a comic, and we're reading this to have a good time. Among other things.Enough said. Read and enjoy. Then go through again to enjoy the pictures. I loved it.

Seriously? WTF is this? Just because Bourdain is famous doesn't mean this should have been published. This thin excuse for a GN was a silly premise that went NOWHERE, and did it slow rather than fast, which makes it all the more tedious. Basically Jiro is a slow-cooking sushi chef who works in his own tiny restaurant on the outskirts of a ringed city of the future. The closer you get to the center, the wealthier people are, and the more lavish and expensive the restaurants are. Food is everything in this future, and the restauranteers basically run the city. But not Jiro; he's happy where he is, even though his reputation for perfection precedes him.Word gets out and two of the biggest restaurants want to hire him, and Jiro doesn't like either of them so he tries to play both sides against the middle and sh*t gets REAL. REAL DUMB. Like, REAL FAST. This is also super-violent, a world where when Jiro catches a patron putting too much soy sauce on his sushi roll cuts his head clean off his shoulders, no one even cares. Seriously, I know Bourdain comes off as a classless buffoon in his own show, but to foist this onto an unsuspecting readership, NOT COOL. So Tony, CUT. IT. OUT.

I loved this graphic novel. It's absolutely hysterical, very tongue and cheek, and the illustrations are excellent. I will caveat though that it is a story that will appeal mainly to foodies, particularly foodies who have a solid knowledge of sushi and Japanese cuisine and dining etiquette. (It also helps to have some clue about LA, given that this is the setting of the story, but that's less necessary.) But to all you sushi connoisseurs with a sense of humor, I think you'll enjoy this.

First graphic novel read ever. Pretty fun, quick etc... The food angle makes it fun

A not very interesting re-telling of Yojimbo. I liked the artwork, however.
