Death Of A Valentine [Hamish Macbeth Mysteries #25] (2010) - Plot & Excerpts

Another great read by M.C. Beaton. In this book Hamish has a suitor that will stop at nothing to be his wife, but does the wedding happen or does Hamish find a way to keep his bachelorhood? Josie McSween is desperate for a man to marry her and sets her sights on Hamish after she sees him on t.v. Josie is basically delusional and does all sorts of things to make him notice her. A great read and one I highly recommend. Author: M.C. Beaton Narrator: Graeme MalcolmLength 6.0 hrs 8 min • Unabridged Release date: Jan 12, 2010Publisher: BBC Audiobooks AmericaAnother excellent addition to MC Beaton's Hamish Macbeth mystery series.Perfectly timed for Valentine reading/listening, I enjoyed this new series narrator, Graeme Malcom's Scottish personalizations. The story kept my interest with twists and twisted thinking on the Valentine theme... The festival queen is crowned - for the 2nd time two years running - causing a contemplative Hamish Macbeth to question how that could be... His department superiors determine the investigation needs a policewoman's assistance, assigning Josie McSween, who has more than case investigation on her mind. Whilst an unsuspecting Hamish is entirely focused on deducing the crime of murder he is oblivious to his own capture in a crime of passion. Hamish's friend and tv personality, Elspeth, clues in to the truth of the matter, adding her own investigations to the story's mix. Perfectly timed disclosure adds to enjoyment of the story and opens the door to an exotic holiday for our Hamish!Narrator, Shaun Grindell, captures the essence of the Highlands with both colloquialisms and accent in his characterizations. Locals come to life with Beaton's intended wit and humour in Grindell's style of telling. His modulation and seamless narration keep my attention throughout.Blackstone's excellent production, devoid of background interference and with even sound distribution, keeps listening a pleasure.Appreciation to Blackstone Audio, downpour.com, and Audio Jukebox for mp3 listening and review.
