A Song Of Ice And Fire Series: 5-Book Boxed Set (2000) - Plot & Excerpts

This was a very interesting book. The character development was extremely detailed, so that I could almost picture what the people looked like, even without ever having seen the TV series. There were so many characters that it sometimes was a little confusing trying to figure out who was who, and as the story developed, I was wondering what some of the people were up to that hadn't been written about lately. I personally thought there was way too much graphic sex and violence, but the story itself kept me reading on to see what was going to happen next. I'm actually looking forward to the next installment to see what further developments occur. This is the series so it's over compassing. I do love the series and I started reading it because of the TV show. I do believe they have strong female characters. There is rape, betrayal and murder. Death so much death. I don't believe the rape is over used so much as readers/viewers feel it is being used as a tool or plot device. I see it as something that just happened, much like slavery or racism with regards to anything with the south. I don't believe it demeans the person that it is occurring to so much as it deems the depth of the perpetrator. So if you are faint of heart or under living in a cave and have no idea what to expect you may want to reconsider this. I like the PoV aspect of the story but I have now become familiar with the term "reliable narrator". I don't like the thought of what I'm reading being skewed from the truth. I don't mind perspective, but that term makes me feel as if they can lie to me and misconstrued what I'm supposed to be thinking the thoughts or actions of the characters. I do love the rich characters and I don't mind needing to look in other places to keep places and people straight in my head. That may be just a deficiency of me and not the author.
