The Storybook Of Legends (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

The show is not that great. The book is actually really good, 4 1/2 stars if I could. It is kind of predictable, yeah, but it is really good. It's about the teenage kids of fairy tale characters, like Cerise Hood the daughter of red riding hood, and Ashlynn Ella the daughter of Cinderella. They are expected to live up to their parents are repeat their story after they graduate. Then there is Raven Queen, daughter of the evil queen. She doesn't want to be evil, she's actually really sweet and talented in music, but the headmaster oppresses her talents because they aren't "evil enough". Raven really hopes there is a way to avoid becoming evil like her mother, and looks everywhere for answers. She starts the rebel movement in their highschool. She is roommates with the nicest, prettiest, most popular girl in school, Apple White, daughter of Snow White. Apple is really perky and sings to birds way too often, but she isn't shallow. She is a very responsible student and strives to be a just, good queen one day. Apple, on the other hand from Raven, is looking forward to following in her mother's footsteps. She is a royal because she follows her destiny. Basically they and their friends try to convert each other to their sides. Apple tries to reason with Raven and tell her that their whole story collapses if she doesn't follow her destiny and it will kill them. Raven tries to get Apple to understand that she isn't an evil person and she can't do what her mother did, and that she can start her own story as well. There are, however, some questions that go unanswered. How long have students been following their parents? Raven found her mother's signature in the storybook of legends. If they have been doing that for generations why do they call it snow white's story and not her great grandmother's story or whatever? If Apple relives it will they rename it for her?Won't they have some marriage issues? I mean, so Prince Charming and Snow White got married, and had kids that have to follow their destinies. So wouldn't their kids have to marry their siblings? Wouldn't they have done that for generations? That's the flaw in this story's logic. But otherwise, it is a good book. 4 1/2 stars. What do You think about The Storybook Of Legends (2013)?

OK, so this book is definitely not normally on my radar, but my daughter was reading it and we were at the dentist waiting and I started reading it over her shoulder… She is 8, and obviously it's written much more to her level, but I have to admit it was cute. It had fun language for her (like "hexting" instead of "texting") that was very much up-to-date, but didn't get completely annoying for me. Best of all, it had a really great story line. The premise is that the children of legendary fairy tales have to swear to follow in their parents' footsteps and re-create their stories, or "poof" the whole story and its characters will disappear. However, Raven (daughter of the evil queen from Snow White) doesn't want to be evil and does not want to follow her mother's footsteps and kill Apple White (who happens to be one of her best friends). It sounds a bit corny as I tell it, but it played out beautifully into a story about being yourself and choosing your own destiny. I loved the message for my daughter (who totally got it), and I actually have been nagging her to finish the next book so I can find out how it all ends… What can I say, I liked it!

So i'm not even sure I can give this 2 stars. There is such obvious flaws in the books logic. Children have to sign a book promising to live out the story that their fairy tale parents lived. Prince Charming is meant to grow up and Marry Snow White. There for Prince Charming's son would have to grow up and Marry Snow White's daughter. Which means, brother would be marrying sister for centuries. Another flaw, unforeseen circumstances. What happens if someone dies before they sign the book? The whole story and everyone in it poofs out of existence? Ugg. It really bothers me, but I do realize I am not the target audience. Tween girls probably wouldn't notice these and the other flaws through out the book. After all my complaining, I am giving book 2 a try. I want to like the story. The idea is cute, but I don't have much hope.

fun start so a cute series for 9-11 yr old girls. Older girls might catch more of the puns though.
