The Matters At Mansfield: Or, The Crawford Affair (2008) - Plot & Excerpts

This is the fourth book in the series, and I must confess that Mansfield Park is still on my Austen "to-read" list, so I was at a loss about some of the secondary characters and their possible histories.Regardless, knowing nothing about Mansfield Park, I deeply enjoyed this story. I found the story intriguing, and felt myself being sucked into the mystery. I loved the initial drama of Anne de Bourgh 's elopement, and I could feel my emotions riding those of the Darcys through it's various developments. When the true mystery arose, progresses and was solved (naturally), I must say that I did not see the conclusion coming. It's a testament to Brebis' storytelling!I am looking forward to the next novel in this series! This was my favorite in the series so far, mostly because of the story and the mystery. In this book I only had one or two suspicions which I doubted for a long time until they turned out correctly. But even then, there was so much intrigue going on that I was quite engrossed. Something I hoped for during the book took place at the end. I was happy that, as with all other Austen spin-off authors I've seen do, they let Anne finally come into her own. And it's interesting that Bebris includes in her works the more annoying, mean, frustrating of Austen's original characters than the ones we all, or at least I, loved (like Catherine Morland and Fanny Price). At least the Darcys are the main characters!! But in spite of missing my favorite characters or not seeing enough of them, I still enjoy how well Bebris captures Austen's original "bad guys."

What do You think about The Matters At Mansfield: Or, The Crawford Affair (2008)?

A light but fun read with some surprising twists along the way. I'll read more of her series.
