I read the Adrien English series in a few days, and this book for me was the perfect ending.Mr Lanyon is a man of good reads and you can see it; I loved the hard boiled vibe that pervades all the book, and I loved the references to Raymond Chandler.Adrien and Jake love story wasn't a fairy tale, and that's good for me. They are imperfect men with their doubts, fears and missteps. They are real, and I loved them to the bones. Someone compared this series with Mary Calmes' "A matter of time". WTF? For me, Mary Calmes' books are implausible Harmony with the worst Mary Sue character ever. Adrien English series is another level, another planet. Thank the Gods for this. Sadly, I read this whole series due to the many 5 star reviews and repeated ravings that the series itself was fabulous. Personally, I still think Jake was a no good, not to be trusted manipulative, selfish asshole and Adrien deserved to meet someone new who would love him wholeheartedly. Furthermore, victims of domestic abuse, in any form either emotional, verbal or physical are always made to believe that it's somehow their fault.... And lo and behold.... at 76% "most of the problem, by now -- was me." I call BULLSHIT!!!! This quote in particular bothered me greatly because once again we see the victim of a cheating asshole who has in the past called him names, put him down in many ways and yes at one point even knocked him on his ass, being convinced that he's now at fault when he's hesitant to give the guy who still doesn't act like he really cares and has certainly never said how he feels about him, another shot.
