Talking Pictures: Images And Messages Rescued From The Past (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

Introduced by Miss Peregrine, I found this collection even more intriguing - and understand why Ransom Riggs enjoys stringing together stories from otherwise disjointed photos. Got a "5" from me largely because the chapter on Janet Lee - a sadly profound photodocumentary and true collector's find. Makes me want to start hitting the antique shops and checking out the old photos - especially the back sides I never paid attention to before. I have heard a lot about this author from members of Book Club With a Twist, and borrowed this from the library. Riggs' approach to developing a story around odd and strange photographs is very interesting, and I enjoyed reading about how his hobby started. However, he seems surprised that people will just toss old images into garage sales or Goodwill boxes. As both an estate planning and probate attorney, and the daughter of two parents who have died, I wonder -- has he ever experienced having to figure out what to do with it all? Boxes and boxes of stuff, photos included. People grieve, people have little time to make decisions, and people only have so much space.
