Storm Winds (1991) - Plot & Excerpts

I didn’t read the blurb of this book until I finished it and have to say… what is the blurb about? I made it through this book despite hating Jean Marc… I HATED him. Every time I read anything he did said or thought I was like “Erh I hate this guy… GO AWAY” and then there was Phillipe ! urghHowever what kept me going was my love for Juliette and Catherine, I really enjoyed reading how the friendship between the two girls started grew and changed.I didn’t know much about the French revolution before reading this, I’d been to Madame tussauds and seen images of the royal families death masks and read about the guillotining there but didn’t have much more insight than that. However I found myself reading up on it whilst and talking with partner about it and generally being completely pulled into it. The plot/story of the book I really enjoyed as well, it was different from anything I’ve read in a while and I lapped it up, the world building was great – I really wanted to visit Catherine’s Eden every time it was mentioned I could fully imagine being there. I really enjoyed reading about Dupree - the villain – and I actually had more understanding towards him and where he was coming from than with Jean Marc, which made him far more interesting to read. In fact I loved all the characters and was really invested in them and their lives (apart from the obvious two exceptions) Overall the book is well written with engaging characters – mostly, excellent story and wonder world building!

During the 1700sI like this book but there is so much of the French Revolution that I don`t like reading, that I had to skip most of that. There was a madness over the land that had the guillitne working night and day during the whole story, chopping off heads of any noble or anyone suspected of helping them. The hero-Jean Mark Andreas is a relative of Andreas and Sanchia from the 1500s first novel in this series.Juliette-the heroine is the daughter of one of Marie Antonettes ladys in waiting and lived at court with them, with a horrid ,mean governess that physically abused her.Jean Mark saved her and the Queens son from a rabid revolutionary crowd and is wounded and she nurses him back to health and he trys to buy Wind Dancer from the Queen but she won`t sell... SPOILERSPOILER.................................so he steals it(his 1500 ancestor gave it to the French palace) but never tells even the h until the last pages,so his ill Dad did get to have it for 6 months.Francois and Catherin`s love story is here as well-she is the relative of the 1500 Andeas`s friend who lives on that estate and Jean takes care of.She is a kind, loving person that had no friends and so became best friend of the h.Their story is a cliffhanger. This is a 5* book if you can skip all the war and history stuff

What do You think about Storm Winds (1991)?

I haven't read many books by Iris Johansen. And I can't remember I have ever read her historical romance. I generally enjoyed this book but I was definitely looking for something different.I definitely didn't like the beginning. The tension between Juliette and Jean Marc... for God sake! She was fourteen! Of course I enjoyed Lolita but Storm Winds is a historical romance book, I expect my characters to be mature. And she was acting like she was much older but I think it was too much, it didn't seem believable. And some parts of this book were very dark. This is not what I like in my romances. For most of the time, I like them light and fun. When I'm in mood for something darker, I'm reading some bloody thriller or suspense. And what happened to Catherine and the fear connected with the revolution and conspiration, it was a bit too much for my taste. I haven't read other books in this series but one day I will. This was a really good book, I was just in mood for something else, not so dark probably. So it was not an easy read for me, still, I liked it.

Storm Winds by Iris Johansen written in 1991 is the second in the Wind Dancer series. Overall, this book can be a bit slow paced but is very interesting. If you like Historical Romance novels that are accurate then this is a very good choice. Be warned, though not very graphic, there is rape, torture, and murder in this book.Set in Eighteenth-century France, Juliette De Clement and Jean Marc Andreas are thrown together time and time again both by fate and organized workings. Both on the hunt for the legendary Wind Dancer statue but for very different reasons, and they will do anything to get the statue. They face tragedy and loss while finding a way to grow both apart and together. For me the most interesting thing about this book is definitely how true to history it stays. I loved that about this book. The characters are interesting. In a rare change the strong female character remains strong, through a lot I might add. There are many plot twists in the story. This book keeps you wondering what next even as the pace slows down some.

Re-read for review purposes. (Oh, who am I kiddin, I frakkin love this series, and re-read it all the time.)Second in Johansen’s 90’s romance series titled, "Winder Dancer", Storm Winds brings the Wind Dancer statue to revolutionary France. The Andreas family are the original owners of the statue that some say, he who possess is granted power. Power which leads every army to victory. Now in the hands of French royalty, Jean Marc Andreas will stop at nothing to get it back for his ailing father. Juliette de Clement, raised in the shadow of Marie Antoinette as well as the Wind Dancer, knows the reputed statue's where-abouts, and knows how to get it. Jean Marc will use her to do so but not before stormy passion arises between them. But war and a deed witnessed so horrific, it haunts her still, impede the way of true love...as well as their path to The Wind Dancer. Sigh. Le amor. Again too young heroine… but whatevs. The angst and Andreas's obsessive lust for her consumed me as much as their consuming passion for each other. The setting once again makes this hist-rom the very best. They just don’t write ‘em like this anymore.
