Rush Revere And The Brave Pilgams (2000) - Plot & Excerpts

I'm gonna be the Nay-sayer here: I wanted to read this to see what all the fuss is about so I checked it out from the library. I made it through about 3 chapters. Although I give credit to what the author was trying to accomplish, he has a very poor writing style and the main character only came across sounding as smarmy as the author. I had to quit reading when I turned the page to find a shameless advertisement for his "Two If By Tea" product line as an 'illustration'. Really Rush?? Really??!! A supposed children's book = not an appropriate place to hawk your other products!! Shame, shame, shame.... Took book back to library the next day.... :-( I didn't know what to expect to see from this book when i bought it.Since its about early American history i wanted to try it.The book is actually really fun for a middle school kids. The dialogues are really childish and story of the kids and the Rush Revere gets boring quickly. Although, the history part was great and interesting. The story of the mayflower and pilgrims trying to survive in the new world.I learned many things about the ship, how they traveled and suffered. I learned how they interact with the Indians.I learned how they survive with cold weather and no food.History part of this book is really educational and charming.Since the author used real life stories, it makes it even better. But, the story part out of the pilgrims is really boring and childish.I wont recommend this to elders but kids are more than welcome to read.

What do You think about Rush Revere And The Brave Pilgams (2000)?

Rush Revere is a substitute history teacher. He has a white horse named Liberty who can talk and together they can travel back through time. They, along with two students Tommy, & a girl named Freedom, spend some time on the Mayflower, the settling of Plymouth, and the first Thanksgiving. They meet several historical figures : William Bradford, Myles Standish, Squanto and others. Yes, I was a little concerned about Rush Limbaugh inserting his politics into a novel for children, and he does. In my opinion it is done tastefully and actually is applicable in the story. This book was very well written. It had some tongue in cheek humor. The arrogant talking horse kept the story fun, and the Rush Revere character doesn't take himself too seriously either. I thought this was a great book.

I'm finding this book extremely boring. the plot is painfully slow to develope with not much to offer. the end product is walls of text amounting to little but fluff and filler.might make a decent acivity for a small child that enjoys the obstacle of words but for the serious reader Rush offers us nothing unique or inspired herethis is the type of book when given to a child will come to the conclusion books are dumb and unimaginative giving them no more time
