Muszę przyznać, że trochę się zawiodłem. Widząc zestawienie Martin + opowiadania od razu nasuwają mi się "Piaseczniki", jednak tutaj ani jedno opowiadanie nie było tej klasy. Pierwsze dwa bardzo słabe, dalej trochę lepiej jednak jak wspomniałem wyżej, żadnego na miarę Piaseczników. Rozumiem, że Martin nie pisał tych opowiadań, jednak autoryzuje je swoim nazwiskiem, i przyznam się, że głównie z tego powodu kupiłem w ciemno... i trochę przestrzeliłem. I picked up this anthology figuring I'd listen to 2 stories by 2 tried-and-true authors. I ended up listening to all but one story that I skipped after it didn't grab me in the first 2 chapters. Most of the authors were unknown to me, and while I like mysteries and a smattering of paranormal fiction, it's outside of my general comfort zone. A great anthology, and the performances were fantastic. My favorite stories are listed below, but # 3 and # 17 were total standouts. I loved the way they took real life historical figures from music and literature, and build stories around them. Plus nailed the tone and setting. Hellbender makes me want Laurie King to write more sci-fi, and Diana Gabaldon won me over with her gay naval officer. Something about Patricia Briggs worldview was recognizable and comfortable, even though her zombies weren't. Plus, gay cowboy werewolf.3 The bleeding shadow - Joe R. Lansdale9 Hellbender - Laurie R. There's a definite Noir feel to this collection, with a supernatural twist. I love it.
