This is my favorite book among all Daniel Steel's books up to date. Mostly her books represent the extreme of every issue pertaining our community giving them an unrealistic touch. Malice. though, on one hand representing the extreme of media's interference to ruin one's life also corresponds to the hardcore realities of incest cases in our society. Grace Adams a teenager of 17 is forced to kill her father while he attempted to rape her. As the story continues we learn that she was forced to for 'it' with her father since 13 when her mother got vaginal cancer. Grace refuses to tell the truth. After much prodding from a psychiatrist and her lawyer she admits the truth but her father being a popular figure among the society prejudiced the jury and they charged her for voluntary manslaughter. She is sent to jail where she survives particularly hard times. After that she gets employed my a modeling agency where she faces new challenges and learn crucial realities about surviving alone in this world. After her two years of probation, she moves to New York and starts working for a law firm. She also did charity work to serve battered women and children and bring them out of the trauma she knew so well. She gets married to her boss Charles Mackenzie, who is horrified to discover such a young and beautiful girl who had suffered more than anyone can handle. He just wants to heal her by loving her and giving her a family she yearned for but was too scared to pursue. When it seemed nothing could go wrong, something goes terribly wrong. Her family, her respect, her status is practically ruined when someone from her past strikes back. An enemy bent on pure Malice aiming to make her miserable for the rest of her life.Malice is a must read story. It teaches us many things apart from the unjust realities of life.

What do You think about Malice (2005)?

The story is about a young Grace Adams who is physically, and emotionally abused by her father with the knowledge of her mom who is quite ill, then when the mom dies, grace refuses to give in to her dad’s demands which obviously leads to being raped more but one night she snapped and she couldn't take it any more, now she ends up killing her father & landing in jail ! There is no relief in jail for poor grace, as here too she is raped by her inmate, so its not the end of her misery. After serving jail for two years she is released and.........wait !! There is more trouble ! This time its a sick probation officer & also by a photographer. She manages to escape them and get work at a law firm but then again she faces trouble when she is abused by a man whose wife she tried to help at a woman’s centre. During the time she recovers from this she comes close to her rich boss Charles & they later get married :) One would hope that this is the much deserved happy ending for Grace Adams but its beginning of much worse time to come. Her husband is standing for elections and that is when her past is uncover by some reporters and hence starts even more misfortune for Grace. But as they say ’’Good things happen to good people’’ ultimately Grace does manage to get the Good Things in her life, though it comes after long suffering and unimaginable pain. I loved the reading this book so much that didnt put it down till i finished it.......... in a day ! Well i have to say that its really gruesome at some points but it surely is worth reading :) If you like Daniel Steel books the book the Accident was by far my favorite so check it out

Seventeen year old Grace Adams on the day of her mother's funeral is attacked, but this isn't the first time she's been attacked by this person, and her struggle leads to drastic measures that land her in jail. After her years spent in jail, she can not get away from the disturbing night of her mothers funeral, and the past struggles seem to follow her everywhere she goes. When the whole world seems against Grace she meets Charlie Mackenzie and live seems to take a turn for the better, but will her past destroy her future?I really thought I was going to LOVE this book from Danielle Steel because from reading the synopsis it sounded completly different then the typical love stories that i have read by her. It seemed darker, more disturbing, and less focused on the aspect of love. As disturbing as this story was, i think it sensationalized all the struggles she went through. If it had focused on the main problem in the story i think it would have been portrayed in a better way. It got to a point where it seemed unbelievable that she was going through another problem. She couldn't even overcome one issue without another issue arising out of nowhere, and that for me made the story lose its impact. As im sure tragedy like this can occur, i just didn't feel the story was very believable. The characters on the other hand i really enjoyed. Grace Adams was such a strong, compassionate and lovable character and you really felt her pain and empathized with her. I think she overcome some really tragic and tough obstacles, and it made me think of what i would have done in her shoes, and if i would have had the strength to overcome all that she did.Overall, i think this book is worth checking out, it is different from any other Danielle Steel novel i've read, and while i couldn't put it down because i wanted to know what happened to Grace, the story just overwhelmed me with tragedy overload.

What an amazing story of Grace. A victim since the age of 13 and victimized her entire life from her Father, to employer, etc. How she overcame her past, paid it forward to others. From a small town in Illinoies, to Women's Prison, to a career in NYC to Washington. A story of strength and overcoming what life hands you. Love, loved this story. I'd like to meet someone as caring as Charles McKenzie. Friends and the people in your life with help you through your worst nightmare , once you let them in.
