Lawman (2007) - Plot & Excerpts

Walau akhirnya memang Garon memiliki alasannya sendiri, tetep aja udah sebel sama Garon, haha :DDari segi cerita, lumayan lah, cuma ga bikin gregetan kek Lawlessdan sebenarnya, kenapa coba nih buku dah tipis, tapi mahal amit >:(....

This is one of my new favorite romance authors up to date, contemporary or historical. Grace Carver led a tragic life, with a nagging grandmother, with a dangerous past, who's poor and ordinary, and loves life to the fullest. Garon Grier is a FBI agent on a case on a serial child killer, who's her neighbor and fellow ranch hand, who doesn't believe in God, and is a widower. At the start, they become friendly, before he took her on a dates and a whirlwind romance. She wants marriage, he wants sex. When he wants to call it off, he treats her like garbage and scares her, when he's the only one she loved, and seeks a shelter life. In a small town of Jacobsville, TX, everyone protects her and treats Garon like crap, since they're polar opposites. When he comes to apologize, weeks later, after he learns her shocking secret, he understands why she's afraid of men--a secret from her past. When she might be in danger, she agrees to come home under his protection, and faints. Then she learns she's pregnant, when it was deemed impossible, since her tragic past came into light. They marry out of obligation, and because of the baby, which can be precarious to her health ailment. Months later, he finds out, when she's endangered, and needs medical help. In the end, they love each other. What a great story.

What do You think about Lawman (2007)?

May have slight spoilers. In author Diana Palmer’s novel Lawman we meet FBI agent Garon Grier who has just bought a ranch and moved to Jacobsville, Texas from San Antonio. He is hoping to get more in touch with his brother whom he has not seen a lot of—Cash Grier—what he was not looking for is his new found attraction to his next-door-neighbor. A 25 year old, shy but lovely woman who has a nightmare of a past, Grace Carver lives with her grandma a cruel woman but the only family she has beside a paraplegic elderly cousin. When Grace's grandma dies she is left all alone with the grief but unexpectedly her neighbor comes around to help her out in her time of need. Though he is gruff, stubborn and rude, she, even with her horrid past, can not help but start to feel things for him—things she has never felt for any man before. But when Grace learns that Garon is working on a case looking for a serial killer and child predator one where no victim has been left alive, and learns a detail that has long been held from the public, she feels it is only the right thing to do to let him know about her past, even if it puts her life in danger. . .Another great novel by this author—I admit that I am finding myself more and more interested in the genre or maybe just Diana Palmer’s novels. LolThe novel like the last is engrossing, with mystery, romance, suspense and more. I could not help but find myself drawn in. Another reason I liked it had to be because we met Garon himself who is Cash’s brother from the last book I read Lawless. I have still not read Cash’s book so it was a surprise—but a good one—to learn that he had a brother and who he was now in contact with. Also to learn some details about him and Tippy’s relationship. The only thing I have to say I did not like is how Garon acted towards Grace after he decides he does not want to see her anymore. This really bothered me, I understand, he was scared after what happened in his past but it was no way to treat Grace. As with Lawless, I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a good contemporary romance and western novel.

I can't believe this book was even printed, let alone that I actually bought it and MADE myself finish it! I even spent some time online searching for some sign that this was written in the 80's and was just reprinted with some gratuitous mention of e-mail and cell phones. The banter was straight out of some cheesy b-movie. That's not the worst of it...Garon had NO redeeming qualities whatsoever. He thinks she's an unattractive, frumpy spinster even after getting to know her. Despite his better judgment he begins to date her and eventually sleeps with her only to break it off quickly after he realizes he's embarrassed to be seen in public with her. 'A quiet, clinging woman who couldn't relate to him intellectually wasn't going to fit into his world.' Can you imagine the person you care about thinking that about you after multiple dates and sex?! That's just embarrassing! But poor, dumb Grace just doesn't get it so he proceeds to publicly humiliate the emotionally unstable little female in her hometown. His cruelty is unforgivable. Truly, it was that bad.Trying to like EITHER of these two was excruciatingly difficult. Grace is mind-numbingly unappealing as a person. She's apparently so fragile in mind and spirit that the entire town has to take care of her. She has lived a sheltered existence rotting away in her mean grandmother's house. And yet, inexplicably at the end of the book she is a member of MENSA, a successful business woman, and an expert linguist....yeah, right!I won't even mention the serial killer plot that is a part of the story except to say that I don't think such graphic details about crimes against children have a place in ANY fiction book let alone a damned stupid ROMANCE novel! I can't even express how many times this book pissed me off. There's even a part of the book where Garon discovers that Grace is pregnant (before she does) just by brushing against her 'hardened swollen belly' when she's just 1 month pregnant. PUH-lease!!!

3.5 starsWelp. I went looking for one with an uber-mean, nasty dude and got it. The first half wasn't anything special, though the topic of multiple child murders was disturbing.A little over half-way, our typical Diana Palmer alphahole took a deep dive into the cruel and unforgivable. Me being the trainwreck ho that I am, perked to attention. He stayed pretty disagreeable until almost the very end. After finishing the story, I'm still wondering if he could be believed or forgiven. There was no
