La Espada Infinita: El Despertar (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

For a short story/novella this was unexpectedly fun. Although I should really say 'expectedly', as everything this author has done for some time now has been fairly gold. Normally I wouldn't read a story taken from a video game, but seeing as it was Sanderson I gave it a try, and I'm glad I did. I can't give it an extra star because it's such a short story - which is a shame, I think it would be great as a fully fleshed out series. This author is amazingly prolific - so much so I wish he'd cut back on the short stories and work harder on his longer series as his most recent ones have been fantastic. It's been great to follow an author with such a steep development curve. I picked this up because of the author attached. Anyone following my reviews knows I am a large Brandon Sanderson fan. This was an interesting case because it placed Sanderson having to write into a game without too much back story (my understanding... may not be true). With this in mind I can take much of what may have seemed a bit odd as it started to be me getting familiar with something others, who have played the game, would have been familiar with. I liked getting another feel for Sanderson as a writer and I felt that he did a pretty great job with this. Even with such a short story, by the end I wanted more and also was pretty heavily invested in the characters.

What do You think about La Espada Infinita: El Despertar (2013)?

I really enjoyed this book and found it to be a great link between the first and second game. It helped explain a lot of the first game's sparse story, and provided a lot of extra detail about the world. Sanderson's writing is very easy to read and I was left wanting more (obviously the point of a book like this; to encourage you to buy the next game.) I would certainly recommend this book to any fan of the fantasy genre, but given the open nature of its conclusion, people may be frustrated if they have no intention of playing the second game.

This book was amazing. It was filled with action and adventure. This book fills in the blanks between Infinity Blade one and two and makes the story a whole lot better. All the characters are relatable. Sirus the main character of the book is on a quest not only to save the world from the tyrants known as the deathless he is also on a quest to find who he really is. Another character known as Isa is Sirus's love interest and they have great chemistry together. The story is unique and one of my favorites from Brandon Sanderson.
