In Too Deep: A Shelby Belgarden Mystery (2003) - Plot & Excerpts

“…Never let someone else decide how you’re going to act…” say the book In Too Deep by Valerie Sherrard. The lead to this creation of this book is due to the great success Valerie got from the very first book called Out of the Ashes that was nominated for the 2003 Red Maple Awards. In Too Deep is a 2 second book to continuation of the book Out of the Ashes now known to the Shelby Belgarden mystery series that include a total of 6 books in the collection. Shelby Belgarden is very curious and clever girl who loves to think she can solve any mystery case that’s a challenge to her life. Shelby and her fellows live in Little River a very small peaceful town that everyone knows each other. There’s a new girl in town called Amber Chapman she has the vibe of strong, chic, cold and unique that drives her apart from people in town. Lots of rumours has been following her outstanding because her personally that could drive people insane show as over confident, rude, don’t care what other people think type, plays a fear in them. Even Shelby seems to be jealous at Amber because there seem to be an affection thing going on between her crush for Greg Taylor and Amber. When unexpected crimes occur of thief’s going around stealing valuable things over and over as time files by. All fingers and clues are pointing and accusing of Amber being the criminal. Can Shelby ignore the fact that Amber is only close with Gray and be willing to help Amber prove innocent or will she ignore it? Can Shelby keep a secret and deal with the consequence of gossip if she tries to help out Amber? Time is ticking for Shelby to make up her decision before it’s too late for regrets. tThis is the type of book that teach you a life lesson base on the quote, “never judge a book by its cover” that’s been around. The characters all have been thought this very meaning full lesson. Yes, Amber could look different act different maybe even comes off as rude but this doesn't define a person. Amber’s appearances might not be the most friendliness but that’s doesn't mean she is not friendly. Her behaviour might look odd to you because she, unlike you that doesn't put her in any spot lesser to be a better person than you are. Everyone has a back-story to how they are that you wouldn't know about by just looking at the coating. In the book Gray stated that, “don’t you think it’s going to be embarrassing for them to realize they treated us that way for no reason?” Don’t ever accuse someone unless your 100% sure. Don’t ever judge someone by how they look like because you’re the one missing out of the person you are skipping through. To be honest I didn't really like the book not because of the storyline but more of how it was presented to the reader. The book was like skimming through the water surface it didn't go too deep enough. For an example not once did the story trigger my heart or made me feel like I'm on the edge of the book and there wasn't any emotions I felt that would hit me hard enough. I only recommend this book to people who likes light reading, mystery genre, short stories, fun, and doesn't like to be drawn into the book too much.
