How To Talk To Girls At Parties (2007) - Plot & Excerpts

I really enjoyed this short story. Yes, it's about a boy who thinks of girls as aliens and then surprise, meets actual aliens, but it goes beyond this initial joke and delves into much deeper territory. Enn encounters three "alien beings" who attempt to express their loneliness, quest for knowledge, imperfection, fear of mortality, and need to communicate their stories. His friend, Vic ( short for Victor?), more superficial, takes off upstairs to attempt another conquest, but this time he encounters Stella (Star), and he gets more than he bargained for--the universe finds him lacking. Enn's last meeting is with Triolet, who is a girl/alien/ pattern/ and poem and as she pours her story into his being, he begins to understand, albeit imperfectly, what she gives to him, and it changes him irrevocably--there is always a cost. We know because he suddenly can recognize and access the story inherent in the music playing in the dimly lit house admidst the stars and the universe. The girls are travelers, but Enn is too, and he has lost his way but found something during his wandering. Excuse me for my poor english: I thought the story wasn't very realistic.A guy like Enn, who I can identify with, cannot be real. Is not possible to be shy on one hand, whilst the other lays the hand on the leg of a (fake?) woman. Enn is not a loser, he definitely can have girls (or hot Milfs in kitchens). It just only takes a bit more time then how Vic does it. While Vic goes along with the first 'woman' he sees, Enn looks around and talks to different ones. If Vic had not made his 'discovery', Enn would have had to some to fun , I presume. Just Imagine ( or try to....) Enn getting head from the 'poem-woman'. He would just never have known. Also, sometimes when a female male dresses up as female you really cannot see difference with a 'real' woman. The reaction however of Vic noticing he was 'working out' with a man was wayyyy over the top... ( After the vomit and puke, they went back to Enn's place to listen to so more Pistols and Clash? )So are these 2 guys punks who don't care or are they conservative jocks? This story is written from a conservative point of view, i think. But that doesn't make it a bad read. It always fun to read about sex and funny things which can happen. Therefore the little twist in the story when Vic finds out is good.

What do You think about How To Talk To Girls At Parties (2007)?

It seemed like a good beginning to a Doctor Who story.
