Curse Of The Thirteenth Fey: The True Tale Of Sleeping Beauty (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

This book was such a fun and charming read! A twist on the tale of sleeping beauty it follows the narrator Gorse's life as she saves a prince and a troll herd, accidentally curses a princess and falls in love with the prince she saved. This book was so refreshing and from the minute I picked it up I was hooked until the wonderful romantic end that left me sighing and wishing for more!I loved Gorse, she was so fresh and innocent and smart and inventive and I enjoyed watching her fey world through her elf/fey eyes.Gray was fun, at first I didn't like him for I thought him boring and bland but the more I got to know him the more I liked him. He was fun and clever and sweet and I really enjoyed having a hero that wasn't the 'strong silent type'. Orybon was a cruel evil jerk and made the perfect bad guy. I was glad when he burst into stars!Father was so charming and wonderful and I liked him almost as much as Gorse and Gray, I just love elves! The aunts were funny and brought a lot of laughs and quirks into the story and Dusty was so charming and cute that I couldn't help but like him!Overall this is a awesome book that is defiantly going to my favorite shelf! I actually enjoyed this much more than I expected!! It was a bit slow at first, but I loved Gorse's adorable innocent yet intelligent voice. It was hard to make the connection with Sleeping Beauty at first, but I went along with it and was rewarded at the end. The writing was beautifully done and the setting was very easy to imagine. I definitely recommend this novel to anyone who likes fairy tales and magic.

Interesting concept, but ultimately failed in execution. Disappointing.

After a slow and confusing start, an enjoyable book.
