Changes (1983) - Plot & Excerpts

Reminded me of the Brady Bunch, especially the Greg and Marsha attraction, and you'll know what I mean if you've read this! I honestly liked this other bestseller from Danielle Steel — Mixed Blessings is better though, and by far my favourite but it doesn't mean that this one was bad in any way. It was just what the Doctor ordered. Occasionally I have bouts when I crave one of these silly-fantasy-easy-read-romances. I'm a sucker for romance, and usually I'd roll my eyes at these types of plots but this one was unpredictable. Of course I've seen the TV movie before and got so stuck into the 90 minute adaption that it's stuck with me all of this time, I caved and the same happened reading this book. Changes by Danielle Steel centres around a man and a woman's separate lives and how their feelings end up merging them together with a lot of crap and hellish fiascos ahead.Onto the characters — Felt so truly sorry for Mel in more ways than one. I related to her daughter Val a little, and also the hero's daughter, Pam. Peter is the hero, but he's very one dimensional and forgettable. I was more curious toward the other characters in this story and their problems instead of Mel and Peter's marriage. That's another point, the book explores many issues that these characters face and isn't afraid to step boundaries. Basically the story was just a realistic situation which made me happy HEH! Except from the fact that the main characters switched feelings and emotions from beginning to end like a water trickling from a tap, and the classic soapy miscarriage where the girl collapses, and the family crumbles piece by piece with everything going wrong made me cringe so much.I wouldn't rush myself to read it again but I don't regret spending time on it as I enjoyed it muchly.

What do You think about Changes (1983)?

Changing, dancing, leaping, creeping from old life into new, wondering what I think of you, unseen dreams, and newfound schemes, two lives enmeshed, embroiled, enhanced at last, and suddenly heart snagged, held fast,no turning back, no letting go, too late to run, too soon to know if all is well, yet time will tell it all, and softly in the night I call your name, nothing quite the same amidst this total rearranging,as everything about me is shifting, moving, changing.Sometimes it's difficult to understand why other people do things. When people care about each other, they get hurt. Unless you stay at a safe distance all the time.Sometimes the truth is ugly.In every society, in every community, in every home, there are rules.

i was surprised by how much i enjoyed this Danielle Steel novel. it's from way back in 1983 and i was surprised that it wasn't too dated. altho there was a lot of peach and cream decor going on hahaha. a female tv anchorwoman has been raising 16 yrs old twin girls on her own since they were born. she's given up on love when she meets a heart surgeon. only problem is, she lives in NY and he lives in CA. and he's mourning the loss of his wife and has 3 kids of his own hehe :) as noted in the title, they both go thru many changes in their lives as they work to keep their relationship intact.

I almost forgot how much I love a good Danielle Steel novel. I haven't read anything of hers in a year or two- so I decided to come back and read another one of hers. I wasn't disappointed. It started off a little slow, but picked up steam about halfway through. I finished the last half in two days. I love the characters Steel creates- independent Mel and her beautiful twin daughters, intelligent and heartfelt Peter the heart surgeon, and his headstrong daughter and loving sons. Between the locations the characters kept jet-setting to, and the heavy descriptions of both Mel and Peter's jobs, the story flew by along with the pages. I actually had trouble putting it down. Looks like I'll be reading another Steel very soon!
