A concise, easy-to-read, guide for authorsThis was a great, quick and easy read for those of us who are writers. It is full of tips about writing and editing. Some of the ideas I had encountered before, but in that regard the book is great as a quick refresher on a few basics. There are also a number of new tips I plan to try out. Rachel Aaron covers a lot of ground, succinctly, in a modest amount of space with an engaging style. She covers everything from plot construction, to character development, pacing and flow, plus lots of strategies for figuring out what works for you, organizing your work, and tracking your productivity. I found her ideas for editing intriguing as well and will try my hand at using a "scene map" with the book I'm working on now. Perhaps I should have waited to do this review until I tried out some of the techniques she recommends, but I really wanted to spread the word about what a helpful little book this is. And only 99 cents! What a deal--a recommended read. After publishing two novels and two novellas, I found myself having a difficult time finishing up my series and wanting to work on other projects. I got bogged down in all the "bad" emotions that come with the tricky parts of writing. I also struggled with some real-life issues that made writing more difficult. Reading this book has given me renewed excitement, hope, and exhilaration about writing and I cannot wait to dive back into my manuscripts and polish them up using her method!
