Winds Of Autumn (1987) - Plot & Excerpts

The whole town is surprised when the school teacher up and leaves to get married -- in the middle of the school year! With this unexpected break from studies, 15 year old Josh and his friends decide this would be a great time to take a hiking and camping trip...but their trip doesn't turn out exactly as they planned! After a few weeks, a new teacher is located and classes once again resume. With the new teacher comes a new student (the teacher's attractive daughter), Camelia, and immediately all the boys are enamored with her. Josh becomes acquainted with her and her father (the new teacher), but when Camelia and Josh start studying the books in Camelia's father's library, Josh comes across some confusing new ideas. Ideas that contradict the Biblical teachings that he's heard all his life....but Camelia and her family whole-heartedly believe these strange new ideas. Josh becomes confused and starts to doubt his faith....could these new ideas possibly be true, or is the Bible right? This book didn't manage to hold my attention quite like "Once Upon a Summer" did. While it was enjoyable, it just didn't seem to have quite the charm that the first book did. It's probably just because the story elements here didn't entirely appeal to me: the camping trip, and then Josh's confusion with creation vs evolution. However, this is a critical portion in Josh's life, and definitely should not be missed if you plan on reading the whole series. This book (and the rest of the series) has a good, clean story that would entertain most people of any age -- young, middle, or old! This series would also be a good one for families to read together.

Buku ini adalah seri kedua dari The Season of Heart. Seri yang paertama berjudul once upon in Summer.

What do You think about Winds Of Autumn (1987)?

Gee, there was a lot here, more than I expected there'd be, and writing out my thoughts on all of it would turn into more of a philosophical essay than reflections on a novel, but I liked the mixture of common growing pains (including Joshua's first teenage case of girl trouble) with difficult issues that anyone could face at any age, serious doubts included.Josh made me proud for eventually standing up, even while he was still mixed up, and I've also more respect now for Aunt Lou's character, for the way her perception came through even when it couldn't have been easy. No, I didn't read any book blurbs before reading this novel, and I won't be looking at any blurbs before starting the next one. I'm enjoying just diving into this series without any prompts.

I liked this book about as well as the first one. Josh is still as enjoyable and relatable as ever. We get to see him have his first crush, and then see how he deals with questions and thoughts that really question his faith and what he believes. I like how this book portrays the importance of family and good friends--not just good like loyal, but good like they have good principles and share your beliefs and standards--and how both can help you stand strong to what you believe and are always there to help you through tough times. I think that's a message that doesn't get shared very often. And I'm not going to lie, this one made me cry. But I loved how the characters responded to trials--how sometimes their faith was shaken, but how they found their way back to God. And the camping trip? Priceless.
