This book wasn't as deep as I wanted it to be, but I enjoyed it mainly for the glimpse it provided of Dewey and Suze in their lives post-Los Alamos. I wanted to see more repercussions in the lives of scientists who created the atomic bomb and while there were moments that offered that, it wasn't a key theme of the book (which is probably in part because it's juvenile fiction). If you have an upper elementary or middle school reader interested in this time period (WWII and immediately post-war), this book and The Green Glass Sea are great choices. There I are so many great juvenile books that get overlooked because they are juvenile titles! Take some time to read this one. It, is a great book! I love reading historical novels, especially those set In the 1940s. This is not only historical about post war life here with regard to atomic testing out west, but it is the story of two girls whose lives are brought together because of the war. I very much enjoyed it.
Okay...........I started liking Dewey at the end..... But not Ynez. She creeps me out.
