Ténèbres Dévorantes (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

As this series goes on, I am finding I am loving it more and more. Risa doesn't irritate me at all in this book and I feel very scared for her at so many different points that I can now empathise with her and understand her (sometimes) arrogance. Although the mission to find the keys to open to portal to heaven and hell seems to have come to a standstill, there is still plenty of action going on in this one, mostly created by the vampire council, who ultimately want to test Risa to find out if she worthy of keeping alive or not! Very nice of them to decide her fate, I think not! In order to please the remaining three undecided vampire councillors, Risa has to hunt down and kill a Rakshasa, a venomous creature who is killing off vampires after they have visited a vampire feeding club, one which Risa really shouldn't be visiting after dark. At the same time she is still on the trail of John Nadler, the last member of the consortium who may or may not have had something to do with her mother's death, but one who definitely has used dark magic to kill people in order to buy up the properties surrounding a very powerful ley line. This trail needs the help of someone more able to talk to Joe Public than Risa is, so she calls in her old boyfriend Jak, a bit of a slimy git and one who destroyed their past relationship when he used her to write a rather nasty report on her mother. And then there's the tension between Risa and Azriel. Their relationship constantly seems to take one step forward and two steps back, but you can just feel the heat sizzling between the two of them. Risa should just get rid of Lucien (he's definitely lying and up to something but not 100% sure what yet, but I think he's more involved in finding the keys than he lets on) and get together with Azriel, although that can't/won't happen because of whom he is. I completely loved this book and am hoping the rest of the series keeps up this momentum. Loved the pace of this one and how Risa has developed into a character I now enjoy reading about and actually care about. (I hated her arrogance in the first book, but this has simmered down a lot and she is now a much more likable person). Can't wait to finish this series up! LOVED. I think that I am enjoying this series much more than the Riley series. As I said before...love this world and can't get it out of my head! My feelings about Lucian have been right from the beginning..I really dislike him. Love the direction of Risa & Azriel, I think their relationship is written so well. I don't agree with others that feel that this book didn't move the story forward. We are getting to see Risa realize herself what she is capable of and just how far she is willing to go to survive. I think this is important, because she needs to know before she gets to the really hard stuff that is coming. The experience with Amaya is a perfect example. This is definitely not a static character. My biggest issue is that after reading the first 3 one after the other, there are quite a few descriptions that seem to be repeated over and over, in the same exact wording. I'm sure I wouldn't have noticed if I had read them as they came out, but it bothered me none the less. I cannot wait for the next one!

What do You think about Ténèbres Dévorantes (2013)?

I won't spill any spoilers so all I will say is finally and that I can't wait to read the next one!
