Tink's Neverland (2000) - Plot & Excerpts

SE Smith starts off her Cosmos’ Gateway Series with Tink’s Neverland, an entertaining novel with quirky characters that felt relatable and a story line that is re-readable over and over again. I first purchased this book as an e-book in August of 2012 and have since acquired it in paperback and re-read it several times in both formats. The Cosmos Gateway series is in the Science Fiction Romance genre, with the series settings occurring in both the modern world (mostly Northeastern USA) and a futuristic alien world that is very patriarchal. As the first book in the series SE Smith does a good job of imparting the necessary tidbits to make reader understand the world, yet continues to tell the story letting the reader discover the nuances of the world with the main characters. The series is a light, easy read, with characters that are quirky and make me laugh.Tink’s Neverland features a young woman whose adventurous nature and open-mindedness make her an enjoyable heroine to follow. The hero is an alpha male that is used to being in charge of his world and watching him try to cope with all the chaos she brings into his life is constantly entertaining. I enjoy rereading the this book because the author paints very vivid yet slightly ridiculous action that pulls me in and keeps me turning the pages.TInk’s Neverland is a very good Sci-Fi Romance that sets up a series I love diving into again and again. Even with multiple re-reads I enjoy the humor, family interactions and clash of cultures that this first installment of the Cosmos’ Gateway series provides. 2 STARS I wanted to like it! I really did! Alas, this was a no go for me. I only got about half way through it. I hate putting down books before I read them in their entirety, but reading time is precious, and I felt my time would be better spent elsewhere. I might try another S.E. Smith book in the future (seems many love her work), but the characters in this book left me with a feeling of "meh". I would still recommend it to those that enjoy the genera. Hit or miss...
