Tigerland (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

A stellar sequel that, dare I say it, surpasses the original. In this book, we rejoin Declan and Simon years after Declan coming out to the public. Their lives seemed settled and stable until Declan's ex shoves his way into their relationship in the most obnoxious way possible. One of the highlights in the book are the glimpses of the trials and tribulations of being a couple in the celebrity spotlight. It doesn't even have to be about two gay men, really. This could happen to any celebrity couple. It is so easy to say "ignore those nasty media rags. Ignore the lies and half-truths that's being printed" but it's a whole other matter to live as the focus of those stories. That I was completely drawn into the story and didn't notice that the sex scenes were of the "fade to black" material speaks volumes about the depth and skill of the storytelling. If you're looking for the typical, hot-blooded romance, this book doesn't have it. It's the kind of romance you can imagine occurring in real life. It's not all fireworks and a maelstrom of lust and desire. It's about two people who aren't perfect and are willing to stick with each other through thick and thin even when they are fighting each other because they truly love each other. This book was just like watching a soap opera. And i hate soap opera's. It was boring, repetitive and just plain silly. Okay character development but what do you expect from page after page of the same old thing. So the ex boyfriend is coming out. So what. Who gives a f*ck. I really dont see how that would cause problems between the MC's. Maybe i'm unique in this but in no way do i feel threatened by my husbands exes. Who cares about them? And what was with Lisa and what's his name? A stable couple that takes a break from each other of page and then pick up right were they left off.Sometimes its better to not have a sequel. Just stick with the one baby and give him your all. Because this baby feels like a watered down version of a mediocre book.
