There's Cock In This Book (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

This is a short story about two professional minor-league hockey players who both happen to be gay and by coincidence end up as roommates. Although it seems obvious to Mac that Fritzy and he are attracted to each other, Mac is determined to keep their relationship platonic and professional. When the couple finally find themselves alone together, Fritzy propositions Mac, and they do the nasty.I'm all for fun, no-strings-attached erotica. I like hot, steamy sex scenes. I like masculine men. Blah blah blah. But what really annoyed the hell out of me about this story is the way the author had to add so many jibes about gay guys who didn't happen to be masculine jocks, insinuating that they are in some way inferior. At one point in the story the author states, "The gay boys he had encountered before Fritzy seemed like a different species. They were fae and cliche, totally embracing the cultural identity they were told came along with sexual preference."SERIOUSLY?!Excuse me, but nobody gave me an instruction manual on the requirements of being a fag. I didn't play with Barbie dolls as a kid and sing show tunes as a teenager because society taught me to do so. I wasn't recruited into the homosexual lifestyle. I am who I am, whether some jock with two brain cells likes it or not. That kind of blatant heterosexism really annoyed me. The writing was actually quite good, and the sex was hot, but that attitude and underlying (well, actually not underlying--more like blatant)condescension toward gay guys who aren't masculine enough, really peeved me, and it made it very difficult for me to even go on reading the story. Had it not been so short, I know I'd have never finished it. Good effort at building the characters, they come across as real and no-nonsense. The setting for them is good, too, and about what you would expect for such a violent sport. Though I did like both Mac and Fritzy and could empathize with their behavior, it still left me feeling a bit hollow. The way it all played out felt coerced in some way. Mind you, the sex was 'out of this world' hot, and I chuckled a time or two at their competitiveness. Then the end was so unexpected and pulled me up short right as I was getting into the story. It did not help that every time I read "Fritzy" on the page, in my mind I kept hearing Joan Cusack's voice calling for "Festy" in the Addams Family Values movie.Still, a short, sweet, sometimes funny read. And it's free! The title? No idea why, except to make sure everyone into M/M read it.

What do You think about There's Cock In This Book (2011)?

Good voice. Self assured and quippy. Satisfying and sexy vignette. Mac's such a pussy :-)
