The Treasure Keeper (2009) - Plot & Excerpts

The drakon quintet continues with this 4th book. The story turns to Zoe Cypriene Lane who had been hiding her talents from her people. The disappearance of her once affianced, Hayden James propels her to search for him. However, she didn't bargain to have a psychic tie to her childhood love, Rhys Langford, who had been imprisoned by the sanf inimicus with the Draumr... Fun read, slight twist to the romantic storyline, better than Queen of Dragons, but The Smoke Thief was more engaging... The Drakon series gets better and better in each book. This book is the fourth in the series and it is about Zoe Cyprienne Lane. A seamstress who sets out on her own to originally find her fiance whom was sent on a dangerous mission from the counsel to scout out the drakon hunters called the sanf inimicus. Her finance, a good and a mild mannered man, has abruptly stopped writing letters to her and becomes extraordinarily anxious for him. Fearing the worst, she decides to go to Paris because Paris was the last location he sent his last letter from.Zoe has a few odd ball gifts that are extraordinarily rare even among the drakon. She can turn invisible, feel peoples emotions and contact people from the dead. During her own hunting for the Sanf inimicus she is followed by a shadow and that shadow in none other than Lord Rhys Langford, the second son to the alpha of the tribe and of whom was kidnapped from Darkfrith by the Sanf inimicu. Rhys becomes a sort of guardian for Zoe and Zoe becomes Rhys link to the real world. Zoe does not seem too happy about it at first, especially since Rhys has practically loved her since they were kids. Their journey together rekindles that spark but she does not accept it till after a tragic event with her fiance. The plot really thickens when you discover who was behind it all. I was not expecting that person to be the mastermind. It was excellently done! The thing I didn't like was the story climax was abruptly rushed in the end. The story was excitingly building up and than all of a sudden the climax is like a brick wall... crash!!!!! Also there are a lot of untouched events that are not addressed in this book that were built on previous books. Hopefully, they will be resolved in the fifth book, The Time Weaver.Out of all the female characters, I like Zoe the best. She seems more down to earth, clever and practical than some of the other female characters. In a sense she was able to hide her gifts from the alphas of her tribe without actually leaving Darkfrith. That's a feat in itself!
