The Red Siren (2009) - Plot & Excerpts

I am absolutely baffled as to how this book could possibly have a 4 star average rating. I borrowed the series from my grandmother thinking that Tyndall was one of those few Christian authors that I could tolerate. I was mistaken. Most of the first two thirds of the book were tolerable but definitely cliche. Then came the end. I won't detail all the travesties but will simply state that the last third had me snorting with laughter at it's utter ridiculousness. I definitely do not recommend this book or series. Try as I might, I just couldn’t get into this book. I’ve enjoyed other books by MaryLu Tyndall before, but I’ve noticed I haven’t like her earlier books nearly as much as her newer ones. (I still haven’t read the first series she wrote, but I didn’t care for The Falcon and the Sparrow at all; it wasn’t until the Surrender to Destiny series that I really started liking her books)The characters of The Red Siren didn’t feel real to me; sometimes their lines seemed so stiff I felt like I was watching a badly performed play. The plot was also sadly predictable and clichéd. It also had a lot more physical romance (kissing) than I like. The Red Siren did have a few redeemable parts, but it’s definitely not a new favorite of mine.
