You will not be aware of this fact because it is the custom of the LEP to mindwipe oour human allies. We do this so they cannot remember being recruited. If you cannot remember the fairy people or our underground city, then you cannot betray our existance to the greedy humans. Of course, not all humans are greedy. You, deputy, are a noble member of your species. And clever too. We only recruit the best. Our intellegence department has studied your file and concluded that you were suitable for LEP membership. At the moment, you are only a deputy officer. To become a fully fledged officer, you must complete four tasks. Number one, decode this message. Something you are well on your way to completeing. Number two, save the life of a member of another species. You can complete this task in any number of ways. Open a window to release a trapped fly. Build a birdbath in your garden. Release a mouse from a trap. Number three, acheieve a perfect score on a school test or homework assignment. In this job, you need to be smart as well as fit. Number four, wash yourself every day for a week. This is a difficult assignment, especially for human boys, who do not like contact with water. If you are going to work underground, often in crampted tunnels, you appreciate a partner who does not smell like a hermit dwarf. Once you have completed these tasks, you must summon your recruiting officer in the ancient fashion. Go to your back yard, or nearest green area. Make sure you are not being watched. Find a soft spot of ground and burrow a six-inch hole with a broom handle or a short stick. When the hole is ready, type out the letters LEP in morse code. The code is as follows:L= tap-tap-wiggle-tap.E= wiggle-wiggle-tap.P= tap-wiggle-drill.Do this at least a hundred times and our underground sensors will pick up the vibrations and send and LEP officer with your uniform and orders. What do You think about The Opal Deception (2009)?
The fact that Eoin Colfer makes you care so passionately about his characters, makes this book both painful and engaging.Having only read this book once before, years and years ago, I'd totally forgotten how it went. Which made it even scarier.Especially seeing Commander Root suffer, and losing him like that is utterly heartbreaking; I love his bad-tempered self so much! What a waste.This book is also a little different from the other three in the sense that our dynamic duos are split up. Following Holly, who is outlawed as a suspect in the murder of her own Commander (who, by the way, was a father figure to her) it's an absolutely naked feeling without Foley in her hear. Likewise, it feels wrong to separate Artemis from his bodyguard Butler. It makes for some really dangerous situations, and lots of action.Opal Koboi makes an awesome villain; clever, vindictive and a fair amount of crazy. It ends on a satisfying note as far as she's concerned; with manual labour. As sis says: Revenge is sweet.The other characters get satisfying endings too; Holly breaks away from her bureaucratic, ill-handled employment, Artemis decides to become a modern-day Robin Hood, giving lost and stolen art back to the world (I approve, art should be accessible to everyone), and I think Mulch might be perfect for his new occupation. As for Julius, may be rest in peace.I didn't rate this book as high as the others though, even though it too was fast and funny, simply because I figured a little too much time has spent on the troll incident, taking up too many pages. Trolls are scary, but they're also dumb, and I enjoy myself a lot more when fighting something intelligent and doing some verbal macho sparring.

When an enemy from his supposed past resurfaces, Artemis must come to terms with what he doesn't remember in order to have a chance at saving his life, friends, human civilization and the fairy world at large from certain destruction.The Opal Deception takes a more serious tone than its predecessors, with some truly life threatening peril and death.Artemis' continued personal growth makes the book an enjoyable and worthy installment. OMG.Just when I thought it couldn't get any better... IT DID.Anyway. The Opal Deception is the revenge of Opal Koboi. That's right, she's back, and she plans to kill Artemis Fowl, Holly Short, Foaly, Butler, Commander Root - pretty much everybody who played a role in her downfall. And chances of Artemis Fowl remembering his past are almost zero... right? (A little suspense there for you guys. Mwa ha ha ha :) )Here's a few previews:A certain character is alive.Someone else is dead.Our favorite two characters are thrown into a life-or-death battle with trolls... and at this point, Artemis has not yet regained his memory.So, bottom line, this book is utterly awesome.
