The Never War (2005) - Plot & Excerpts

I think what I love most about this series is the different worlds. Every book, there's a completely new setting to lose yourself in, complete with a new cast of characters. But of course, sometimes the best ones from previous novels come along for the ride.Bobby Pendragon now finds himself in a very familiar territory indeed; First Earth, his home planet in the 1930's. And he quickly discovers that the "tipping point" here has everything to do with time. Somewhere, someone, helped along by none other than Saint Dane, is going to set something in motion that may become the catalyst for an event that will change history: World War II. And in order to save First Earth, Bobby will have to unravel the web of the past, the present, and the future, as well as make one of the most difficult choices ever.Accompanied by the complex, vengeful, charismatic Vo Spader from the previous novel, with the addition of First Earth's mellow and wise Traveler Gunny, Bobby has reached a personal tipping point of his own; the time when he will truly come to understand what it means to be a Traveler.I loved that this book took place in our own past, with all the time-appropriate references. I honestly used Google a couple times just to see if some of the characters Bobby met in the past were based on real people! Reading Bobby's incredulous, wondering account of experiencing all the time-travel was very realistic and consistant with his unique narrative voice. And as usual, the cliffhanger leaves you just like Bobby's ever-loyal friends Mark and Courtney; waiting for his next journal and his next adventure in a new territory.

Territories are my favorite part of the series. It helps keeps things exciting in each book. This was the coolest book so far. The main territory of the book is First Earth- Earth in 1937. It was a bit exciting to see what the author would do. 1937 has already passed so we along with Bobby have to figure out what Saint Dane’s plan is. How much history do we remember? The author is pushing us to put the pieces together. We can’t really figure out a whole lot on other territories but we know about Earth’s history. It was even more exciting to jump 3000 years into the future so see how things are on Third Earth. My biggest problem with the book is they drag a bit at times. There’s a lot of ‘down time’ when Bobby gets to a new territory because he doesn’t know what’s going on. He has to sit back and watch how things are going before jumping in. The book especially drags in this book because we aren’t learning anything new. Earth isn’t some really out there territory with a whole new way of life that we need to learn. In the grand scale of things it’s pretty similar to now. Everything is smooth sailing when there’s a bunch of action though which makes up for the slowness. The bottom line? Awesome installment!

What do You think about The Never War (2005)?

In the Book Bobby arrive to Veelox, after his uncle's death. Bobby the main character follows the antagonist, Saint Dane to First Earth. Him and his friend Gunny go to First Earth because there is a firework rocket that is going to hit Hindenburg. Bobby tracks a guy named Rose down and gets him, he also gets to a limousine with a old man. Bobby gives his ring to the traveler gangster and saves the First Earth.I Picked up the book because i read the other two books from this book series so i liked it. That's why i picked it up.I Finished the book because it got boring to me.I think Malachi will like this book because he likes books about mystery's.

I’ll be writing about two main characters. One is Bobby the protagonist and Saint Daine the antagonist.tFirst, Bobby is the main good guy of the book. He was an ordinary teenager. He loves sports and is a good athlete. He was a basketball star. Then he learned who he really is. Bobby is a Traveler who can travel to different worlds through gates called flumes. Most of Bobby's’ family is missing (Mom,Dad, and sister) except for his Uncle Press, who is also a Traveler. He also has two friends Mark and Courtney. Travelers usually send journals about their adventures to someone close to them and Bobby picked them. On Bobby’s Travels he makes friends with travelers from different territories. These friends are Spader and Gunny in this book. Each time he goes through a flume he has to watch out for Quigs who guard flumes. His nemesis is Saint Daine. Saint Daine is the bad guy of the story. He is pure evil. Even when he dies it’s just his body that dies, his evil spirit lives on. He has the ability to shape shift into anyone. His goal is to cause chaos in all the territories. He does this by finding the turning point of a territory using this he can cause chaos. Saint Daine is very good at manipulating people and having them unknowingly help in his plan. Saint Daines plans usually involve killing lots of innocent people. Saint Daine does different things to show his superiority over Bobby. This book series has very good creative characters.

This book is awesome. I had read the Before the War series, so like with Spader, I already knew who Gunny was. I was THRILLED that Spader stayed around for the story. YES! I shouted inwardly. By now I was DEFINATELY used to his style of writing and was thoroughly enjoying the books. I was like, hey, these are awesome. This one had much less action, I'd say, but it proposed interesting twists to the rules (Hey, I though Denduron had an interesting twist to the rules, but no, here we go into a much better twist) I won't say what the position was, but this definately twisted Bobby and Spader's morals. What to do, what to do? VERY clever. Not only did it end and say that Bobby felt like he'd lost, it ended and I felt like I'd lost. That's clever. Very clever. Evil Saint Dane, evil saint Dane. But what else is new?Mark and Courtney were very absent from this story, which was fine with me. Or... they weren't, but they didn't really matter much. They just helped with the story's pacing. Good for them.Overall, the series is getting more intense, though it dropped in violence by a lot.So then, I went straight to book four.
