The Lost Starship (2000) - Plot & Excerpts

What a delight, I finally could read a sci-fi again. I really missed it with all the other books I have read for writing a review. My love is sci-fi.And here was a story I throughout enjoyed, from the first page to the last. Always thinking “Do they make it?”I don’t want to say anything more for not spoiling the great story. For sci-fi lovers, that is a must to read.It deserves 5 stars Quickie review: Good space opera book, lackluster ending. Longer review: To me, the premise of The Lost Starship was interesting, which was why I picked it up. The first act of the book was quite good, full of action and suspense: flying to different worlds, rescuing people, fighting the enemy, etc. The final act was not very interesting. Everything seemed to build up to a very dramatic conclusion, but it never delivered. Given the grand scale of the journey, I figured that the conclusion would be a bit more dramatic than what was written. It wasn't bad, exactly, just disappointing. It leaves room for a squeal, but The character development was sub-par and not well paced. Additionally, some character elements seemed forced or thrown in for the sake of character development. The interactions between Maddox and Meta was weird and confusing. Additionally, the interactions with Dana seemed forced and almost silly. I think that Heppner tried to do too much with the story by throwing a ton of elements into it, but then failed to draw out a conclusive ending. It definitely had potential though.
