The Life And Death Of Lily Drake (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

I did not know until I started reading Lily Drake that it is set in and around Columbus, Ohio. I have lived and worked in and around Columbus for 36 years and enjoyed the setting. The Lily Drake series has two more books, but there are some new releases for which I need to save my Kindle money, so I am not going to read them at this time. Lily is fun to spend time with, but I do not like love triangles, and I did not like the resolution of this triangle. Just once, I would like the characters to say, "We love each other and will live long enough to make this work as a threesome." (Thanks, LKH, for being brave enough to address that possibility.) Otherwise, Lily is a fun, popcorn read, and who doesn't love popcorn? The Characters: This book is full of what can only be described as a seriously bad-ass cast of characters. Each of the key characters (Lily, Matthias, Val, Rose, and more) continued to develop and surprise me throughout the book. They are a wonderful mix of serious, sass, mischief, and mystery. T. Michelle did a great job of building on the characters, and keeping me guessing about their reactions and motives to each new situation. The Relationships: The relationships in this book are as unique as the characters. There's romance, friendship, family, betrayal, competition, and the over-arching effort to keep Lily and her son alive and safe. Too Perfect of Perfectly Flawed: This is not a girl meets boy, they fall in love, and ride off into the sunset kind of story. This is a girl meets boy, he turns her entire world upside down, and furious page turning ensues as you wait to see what happens kind of story.World Building: As with many vampire stories, the book is set in our world. The part you learn as you go is the specific vampire society and rules of existence that T. Michelle has created. She did a great job of weaving those elements into the story. Sometimes we find things out a bit ahead of Lily, other time we're learning with her, but in all cases it flowed well. The Book as Part of a Series: THE LIFE AND DEATH OF LILY DRAKE is an excellent opening to a series. This book delivered a complete story, but left me wanting to know what happens next with Lily and the other characters. Expect to see reviews for the next two books in the series, since I absolutely must read more!Jen’s Final Rating: 5 STARS! T. Michelle Nelson just landed herself on my must read author list.Psychocat’s Final Rating: 5 CLAWS! As far as Psychocat is concerned this book was written with her in mind. If Lily needs a pet, she has a volunteer.
