He put his hand on Tessa’s shoulder and shook Antonio’s hand. “Hey, you’re early. Gus is saving your places at the counter.” “We went to early church, thinking we’d get here before noon and miss the crowd,” Antonio said. “We could hardly find a place to park.” Nick looked out at the packed-out tables and booths and smiled. “Yeah, Memorial Day weekend seems to be the official kickoff of the tourist season. The numbers are probably higher because of the media hype last fall surrounding the red shadows legend.” Tessa rolled her eyes. “Please don’t get Gus on that subject.” “Not to worry.” Nick followed the Masinos over to the counter. “The specials are written up there on the chalkboard. The tomato basil soup will knock your socks off. Low fat, too. All you can eat for six ninety-five.
