The Last Dragon (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

The artwork is very pretty. The story is remarkably meh. I'd still give it three stars, but there's a disconnect between the artwork and the story that I can't quite get past. The female lead is written as a child, with a child's doubts and a child's way of thinking. She is drawn as a sexy, sexy waif whose skirts never hide her ridiculously long, clearly post puberty, barbie legs, and usually also show her bum (and not in an "I'm a kid and I haven't learned to care yet" kind of way.) I've got nothing against sexy, but it's jarring to have it juxtoposed with a character who I otherwise would have assumed was maybe twelve years old. This was a pretty enjoyable read. I very much enjoyed Rebecca Guay's artwork. Jane Yolen's story was a good one, however I wish there was a bit more to it. The main character, Tansy, I liked, as well as the different ideas and concepts put in to it. However, as I said, I wish there was a bit more to it. I also wasn't a fan that there were some somewhat cheesy and cliché parts to the story as well. Other than that, I enjoyed this short read.

What do You think about The Last Dragon (2011)?

Beautiful artwork, but it's an evil dragon >_< plus the end doesn't make much sense.
