The Impossible Knife Of Memory (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

The Impossible Knife of Memory is a book that includes love, hardships, death, and maturity. I recommend this book to people who are mature readers. The Impossible Life of Memory is about a teenage girl named Hayley Kincain who lived her life constantly on the road with her father, Andy, for five years and never settles down in a town for a long period of time. Hayley and her father then decide to settle down for a while in their original hometown. There is no way that Hayley will ever be the child she was five years ago. She goes to school like every normal teenager, but doesn't do the homework. She goes home only to find her father drunk or passed on their living room couch. Andy is a war veteran. Now that he is out of the war, he relives his pass battles that leads to his breakdowns and hallucinations.Due to these circumstances, Andy always gets drunk to ease the pain away even though it can be a detriment to his health and his daughter. Because of this, Hayley never does her homework because she constantly worries about her father. Later in the story, Hayley meets boy named Finn who is assigned to tutor Hayley in her classes. Although she makes it seem like she hates him, Hayley actually has a crush on him. Finn is always there for Hayley even if she doesn't want him to be. Finn helps Hayley when she is having trouble with her father, but doesn't ask questions about Andy's behavior. One day, Hayley comes across the lady who ruined her and Andy's life. Because of this encouter, it seems like Andy's behavior and flasbacks of the war have gotten worse. Will Andy's behavior get better, or will eh do something that he will regret? The Painful knife of memory is a coming of age book by Laurie Halse Anderson. The book is enticing and keeps you wondering it’s defiantly a book to read, if you are living with a veteran, or have witnessed someone with PTSD. After one chapter I feel in love with the book and you will to.The story follows a young girl called Hayley Rose when she moves into her deceased grandmother’s house with her father. Hayley Rose has to take care of her father who has post dramatic stress disorder, while balancing a new relationship with Finn. Hayley can only think about her father and what will happen next could he be dead or what will happen when I get home. Without saying too much this book is an emotional roller coaster that follows her past and present struggles as a young girl living with someone without control and having to raise herself and care for her father. This book is definitely an emotional read and is weak in detail in the end but is very strong throughout the book. It’s easy to follow the development of the characters. If you have witnessed or been in a dysfunctional family it’s a good read, even if you are just looking for a book with love and drama this is definitely the book for you.Overall this book was amazing and I defiantly recommend reading The Impossible Knife of Memory by Laurie Halse Anderson. I recommend it for young adults who like to read about love and drama.
