He laughed loudly and smirked at me but as he was about to reply his phone rang. “Yeah?” he barked into it. I watched his face darken and his eyes narrow. “Fuck!” he spat out and threw his napkin on the table, “Gimme half an hour.” He turned to the waiter with a deep scowl, “Make sure Miss Summers gets home” to which the waiter nodded and disappeared with Lucas’s credit card. “I have some business to deal with, Red. Finish your meal before you leave and make sure the maître d’ calls you a cab, and go straight home.” I stared wide eyed at his abruptness “Is everything okay, Lucas?” He seemed to be in a world of his own but he bent and kissed my cheek before he left and I sat, silent and alone, still trying to comprehend Lucas’s behaviour. The waiter returned Lucas’s card and I asked him to call me a taxi but I wasn’t in the mood for home, so I made my way to the Black Panther to catch up with the girls and I was soon perched on a stool at the bar surrounded by Owen, Puss, Misty and Angel, and a pint of bitter.
