The Headmistress Of Rosemere (2013) - Plot & Excerpts
"The Headmistress of Rosemere" was such a beautiful story. Patience is thrust into a roll she never was meant to fill and was abandoned by more than one person she felt never should have abandoned her. Oh how I could relate to her. Oddly enough, I related more to William, shameful for past actions, feeling lost in a world continuing on around him, and desperate for the truth that eludes him. A lovely story with a bit of mystery and intrigue...and of course romance and redemption. I highly recommend! (Now, to find the first one and read it...and wait for the third to come out!) I loved the thread of redemption that wove through this story. Finding William Sterling where we last left him reveals a man in dire straights. Even as we watch his world fall apart around him because of his own actions, we can't help but pity him. It's a difficult thing to make a character sympathetic in the midst of a mess of his own making, but Sarah Ladd does a great job. One of the ways she does it is through the reaction of the kind-hearted, and overlooked Patience Creighton. Her gentle belief in William is inspiring.I also really like the fact that at a key juncture, where the plot could have easily devolved into melodrama, the author stayed true to the character and let things unfold in a way that felt natural.I enjoyed the first book in this series and this one more than lived up to my expectations.
