The Fetch (2009) - Plot & Excerpts

"Fetches" or rescuing angels who visits the dying, are the workers of Heaven, leading souls through the Hall of Transformation. A certain Fetch, named Calder, fell in love with a nurse maid when visiting a young boy's sick bed. Determined to make her his Fetch apprentice and give her the special Fetch Key, he embarked on a journey to bring her to Heaven. However, his attempts to enchant and teach her went horribly awry when Calder broke one of the biggest Fetch Laws: No body snatching. The book follow his path as he tries to not only woo the woman he loves, but to fix the most horrible wrong that he committed.I really enjoyed this book. Not only was it nearly impossible to put down, it had the perfect combination of adventure, opposition, romance, and tragedy. It was very well written and struck me as a perfect book for my taste. I highly suggest this book to those who are partial to romance and supernaturals. The effort taken to write this book must have been tremendous, but it all flows together painlessly. This book had some excellent parts, but overall it was kind of bloated. This could have been cut down to half the length without all the tedious train and boat trips (except the boat trip with the gypsy-esque family, that was pretty boss). The romance was really chaste and didn't do much for me, in fact it kind of bugged me considering it was between a teenage girl and a guy who, while not technically much older, was commandeering the body of a very gross and weird, much older family friend (Rasputin, mmmmm). If I were that girl, I probably would not have been able to get past that. The whole image of the afterlife presented by Whitcomb was really interesting and beautiful. If there were more of that and the Lost Soul revolt, and less squicky romance and searching for a pointless MacGuffin, this book would have been much better.

What do You think about The Fetch (2009)?

did not finish, it was a good book but the story did not interest me enough to read the whole book.

not a love story at all, actually more of a historical novel, sorta. It was ok, not great.

This is a really interesting book. Don't let the "supernatural romance" thing throw you.

Definitely an interesting historical fantasy with another take on the Anastasia story.
