The Christmas Wish (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

This is a cute short story about two people who find love. Lucas is an ex-con working as a short order cook while Tess is a waitress whose reputation can be found on the bathroom walls. Still, every person deserves a second chance and Lucas makes Tess believe their lives can really change if they are willing to take a leap of faith in each other. I think I would have rated the book higher, if in her first book, there had been some mention of these characters to grasp your curiosity. Unlike most novella's that fall between books in a series, this one didn't act as a bridge between the two, but was rather a stand alone. To be honest, since there was no mention of either Lucas or Tess, this book felt more like an idea the writer had, but never took the time to truly develop it properly. If you are looking for a quick read, cute story with very little depth then this is for you. Sorry, this one missed the mark for me, I think after reading her first book in the series I expected more. Series Review: The Heart Of Montana series by Katy Regnery is the ultimate Christmas series to get you into the holiday spirit. By Proxy tells the story of Jenny Lindstrom and Sam Kelley who are proxies in their best friends’ wedding. Because Sam is late and the judge has already left for the weekend, the two are stuck for a few days. It’s a weekend that will change their lives forever and form the basis of their relationship. Jenny and Sam slowly get to know each other. Even though they’re only spending a weekend together, Katy Regnery lets this relationship develop at just the right pace. It never feels rushed or superficial but is incredibly sweet, romantic and loving. Both characters reflect on their situation, the life they’ve been living, and make some hard decisions. I loved how they helped each other realize what they really want. They have walked through life half asleep, never experiencing anything at the fullest. When they meet, they are wide awake; everything feels more intense and suddenly makes perfect sense. What I loved most about By Proxy is that it’s a traditional romance, it is sweet and heartfelt, and something for the romantics, but still modern and funny. Katy Regnery knows to create sensuality and chemistry without being overly descriptive. By Proxy warmed my heart, made me smile and simply feel good. It’s a wonderful small town Christmas story but really fitting for every time of the year. Jenny also has several sexy brothers. I was ecstatic when I found out that they are getting their own stories! The Christmas Wish is a novella in the Heart Of Montana series which takes place after By Proxy. While Jenny is mentioned, it is not necessary to read By Proxy to enjoy this great Christmas novella. Tess is a waitress in the local diner, who we meet very briefly in By Proxy. The image we get of her is that of a flirty woman who the locals call Fast Tessie. Lucas is a short order cook in the diner Tess works at and has recently been released from prison. He is trying to rebuild his life, make something of himself, and he just can’t keep his eyes off Tess. The only problem is, Tess is actually a very self-conscious and insecure person. She has been judged by the people she grew up with and no one has ever considered to take a second look and to really get to know her….until Lucas. The Christmas Wish must be my favourite Christmas novella of all times. I immediately felt connected to Tess and fell head over heels in love with the gentle and kind Lucas. This is a sweet and short feel good novella that I greatly enjoyed.I am impressed by Katy Regnery ’s writing. It flows smoothly and effortlessly and I had no problem finding my way into the series. Katy Regnery has a new fan in me and I am beyond excited for the next book in this series, coming in January, 2014. *Copies of both books were provided by the author in exchange for an honest review*
