Surprise Attack Of Jabba The Puppett: An Origami Yoda Book (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

This is a really enjoyable book. The characters and the problems they face are all easily relatable. It is also pretty funny in some parts. The thing that this book doesn't include is a good ending. The story takes place at McQuarrie middle school. It's and average middle school with average students. The story begins with Dwight coming back to McQuarrie. Dwight is a really weird kid, but he has an origami yoga with him that gives out really good advice. Soon, there is an assembly introducing a new system called FunTime. The system is implemented by the school to raise the schools test scores, which did not meet the requirements. The students are angered by this. Their elective classes and field trips are taken away, replaced by hours of sitting in an classroom, watching a singing calculator sing about math. Because of this new outrageous program, the students go and consult origami Yoda for advice. They form an origami alliance, with each student having their own origami Star Wars character to battle this evil. They plan to get bad test grades, so that it seems like Funtime isn't doing anything. They are then faced by the principle who threaten to keep the in the same grade if they fail the test. Afterwards the students think of other ways to defeat Funtime. Their are many characters in this book that are all part of the origami alliance. Some of the main characters are Rabbski, the principle of the school, Harvey, a rude student that every dislikes, but is extremely smart, Mike, the Holocron Keeper who records everything, Dwight, and other students that are part of the alliance. The students are faced with many challenges, and each time they overcome one, they are faced with another. Rabbski threatens to call their parents and other things to try to break up the alliance. Along the ways they also face small problems like the Rib-b-q going away and annoying hug walkers. No matter what happens though, the alliance sticks together and faces all the challenges. This book is a great and enjoyable book to read. It had lots of funny moments, and many if the challenges the students face are easily relatable. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants an enjoyable, easy to read book. Tom Angleberger continues the Origami Yoda saga with the Fun-Time Menace replacing elective courses at the McQuarrie Middle School in an effort to raise the required standardized test scores. The gang forms an Origami Rebellion to counter the Menace. The book ends with a cliff-hanger that all is not as they seem in regard to their enemies. Be interesting to see what the next book holds. My son read the book to me and shared all the artwork as well. He also enjoys folding the origami that is listed in the book. A not too subtle attack on the over-emphasis on standardized test scores.
