Squeak And A Roar (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

Fun read you can't take seriously at all. At least in the beginning. The start is so ridiculous and unreasonable, but it gets better after that. Gavin is pretty much a dick for the first 50% and not in the fun "I like him because of that." way. He gets his act together and some of it you can forgive him for. I loved that Anthony had some spine and wasn't just going to wilt and take Gavin and other peoples crap. Wish we'd got to see more of a punishment for a certain person, but I'll live. I'll probably continue the series at some point, but it probably won't be a priority. Interesting start to a new series. I found the concept of the 'forced matings', including all the consequences if people don't obey these totally arbitrary (as far as I can see after one book) rules to be somewhat ridiculous.Still, that aside, the actual pairing of a lion and a mouse shifter had its appeal. Gavin the lion behaved in character (pompous, arrogant and unfeeling) until he learned his lesson, and Ant the mouse was cute, timid and - squeaky. I liked the way they approached each other once the preliminaries were out of the way. Each learned from the other and that was fun to watch.A light, entertaining read, if you manage to suspend your disbelief around the forced mating idea.
