Sistemi Di Potere. Conversazioni Sulle Nuove Sfide Globali (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

I admit, this is another book that I didn't finish. While the topics discussed are obviously important and warrant attention,I feel that they deserve better coverage than what they got in this book. The subtitle of the books reads "Conversations on Global Democratic Uprisings and the new Challenges to US Empire." I didn't see much "conversation" in this book, just a lot of Chomsky giving his opinion. I was only about one third of the way through when I realized that David Barsamian never challenged any of Chomsky's ideas. It's not that I agree or disagree with everything that Chomsky says, but it feels like sometimes he just rambles on without much explanation. Colonization, "mental slavery," the Arab Spring and the quality of modern education are all complex issues. Yet they get skimmed over all in a few chapters. I feel that this is a good primer for people taking a beginners class on global politics, but there isn't much else to recommend for it. Noam Chomsky is amazing as always for his insight and his incredible breadth of knowledge. He might be the most well-read person on this planet. What I really admire about him, though, is his ability to express his ideas about very complex and complicated political situations with utter clarity and simplicity. To me, this is truly the sign that a person really knows what he is talking about. No exaggerations, no dramatic language, no beating around the bush -- just clear, calm discussion. Brilliant and inspiring.

What do You think about Sistemi Di Potere. Conversazioni Sulle Nuove Sfide Globali (2013)?

A necessity for Americans to read. This book points out all the faults we have and willfully ignore.
