Rubiny Dla Rozpustnika (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

This is the second in the Jewels of the Ton trilogy and features Fallon, the Marchioness of Mystery and Warrick Fitzhugh. Warrick is a spy who has been marked for death by an unknown traitor and he enlists Fallon’s help in trying to find and defeat the assassin sent for him, stop them from killing any more of his fellow spies, and ultimately find the traitor responsible as well. At first he just plans on using Fallon, but the more he gets to know her, the more he admires her spirit and courage, as well as not being able to keep his hands off of her. Fallon’s background is best kept secret and she now portrays herself as a courtesan, so she doesn’t feel that she deserves a man like Warrick and is determined not to fall in love. It was delightful to see these characters with troubled pasts and lots of secrets find each other and work through all of the obstacles, not only from outside sources, but also from their inner demons, to find the happiness they deserve. I enjoyed the scenes where Lily, the Countess of Charm appeared and the intriguing hints as to her secrets that will be revealed in the final book in the series. I can’t wait to find out what happens next in Sapphire’s are an Earl’s Best Friend. The second book in the Jewels of the Ton series. I love the mystery, I really like that progress was made but the ultimate answer is not yet found - it makes it feel like the three books are really one unit instead of three books with overlapping characters. Warwick Fitzhugh is much more likable than the duke from the first book, and I found Fallon much more interesting as a lead character; and I loved the first book. Fallon is the daughter of a pickpocket and a prostitute who has remade herself into a high-class "courtesan". No one knows her past, until Warwick Fitzhugh, a semi-retired spy looks into it while trying to discover who is after the diamonds in the rough- elite British spies. The plot is full of challenges that could easily ruin a lesser writer. I was totally caught up in this story and sad for it to end. I can't wait to read Lilly's story!
