Quiet Book (2010) - Plot & Excerpts

Underwood reveals that almost all things are more complex than first thought, and each situation will have its own distinct "kind" of quiet. Subtle and quiet even the book's illustration, this is a book that has a powerful opportunity to spur discussion of an unusual notion. In this loud and plugged in era, it is a special picture book to use to remind readers of what quiet is.Suggest for: storytimes about sounds/noise, patrons looking for sophisticated picture books, anyone. Right away I was impressed with the book because I enjoyed the illustrations so much. Animal children are the stars on each page, demonstrating some sort of "quiet." For example, on one page we have a sad little moose-child, sitting at the bottom of the stairs with his lunchbox on his knees -- "last one to get picked up from school quiet" After finishing the book, I could see having students take a piece of paper to illustrate their "quiet" definition. I think this book will be lots of fun to share.K-2
