Pup (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

Overall I liked the story enough to finish it, but it didn’t always hold my interest. This was more like a BDSM how-to than a love story. I tend to like the ‘broken hero’ syndrome and even though our poor boy only had ADHD and not some truly traumatic experience, it was hard to watch Micah struggle to focus sometimes. Ty is the tough Dom who’s starting to feel his age and after much hemming and hawing decides to take on Micah for a temporary two-week contract to see if they are a good fit. Micah was sweet, playful (Ty would often punish him for that though, or at least threaten him with consequences) and struggling with his short attention span. He needed discipline (I guess) to find his subspace and find his bliss in subbing and Ty helps him to focus and move towards finding it.A lot of the things that were BDSM elements in the story either felt unnecessarily mean (obviously I would be no good in the lifestyle) or painfully outside of my comfort zone (clothespins on the skin). I didn’t empathize or even particularly like Ty. In the end I was glad to see the two get together, but after the two weeks were over, both were already ‘in love’ which felt too fast for the story. I’ve read some BDSM stories that really made me love them, but this one unfortunately didn’t do it for me. I am hopeful that the author worked out some of the kinks (ha!) in the rest of the series because I am interested in the third book which received higher ratings. I am unsure if it is the books or the writing style, but I have difficulty connecting with this author's characters. With the exception of Law, Paolo & Styx, the MCs never fully draw me into their plights. In this book Tackett Austin is going through a sexual mid-life crisis. He sees his friends settling down and begins yearning for that kind of joy and permanence. As he celebrates his birthday, the flirtatious bartender Micah Slayde makes it very obvious that Tackett is a Dom he would like to submit to. But Tackett isn't looking for a plaything, so now Micah has to prove to Tackett that Micah truly wants to be his boy.Again, the story was okay. Micah truly was a scatterbrain. No wonder none of his prior doms would collar him. I am glad Tackett was patient and also took time to learn how Micah ticks. It was intense but a satisfying journey for both.I will read book 2 because I already bought it, but I would like to try another series to see if it's the author's writing style that leaves me wanting a little more depth.

What do You think about Pup (2013)?

I love the author's romance, "Plan B." "Pup" is an instructional manual for M/s. Not for me.

Confrontational, brilliant writing. Awesome characters. Made me cry, twice

Meh. Lacked chemistry, lacked heat, lacked reality on so many levels.
