Public Enemy Number Two (2004) - Plot & Excerpts

4.5/5 " In the end I was accused of theft, assault, trespassing, criminal damage, and cruelty to animals. The lion survived, by the way. It was on the operating table for six hours to remove the carbuncle. The bad news for the surgeon was that it woke up after five. "A total page turner, Public Enemy Number Two is jam packed with action, humor and thrill which will leave you with a huge grin on your face, after you have finished it.Public Enemy Number Two is the second book in Diamond Brothers series. Thirteen year old Nick is framed up by the police and sent to prison in order to extract information from Johnny Powers aka Public Enemy Number One. Sharing a cell with Johnny, Nick becomes involved in Johnny's escape plan. But their only chance to escape the prison is Nick's goofy and clumsy elder brother, Tim Diamond.I've read The Falcon Maltesers and I expected the same dose of humor, action and mystery from Public Enemy Number Two and it is fair to say that it lived up to my expectations. From the very first page Anthony Horowitz's witty writing had me giggling out aloud. It is always refreshing to read from Nick's perspective. The writing flowed smoothly and I devoured it. The conversations were always interesting and consistently funny . Once again, the plot was sensational but the mystery could have been more tangled. My only reason for giving it 4.5 stars is that there weren't many suspects to keep you guessing till the end. And a little before the "bad guy" was revealed, I had already anticipated about who it was going to be. Apart from that, the unexpected turn of events had me hooked to the book. The characters were so good! Nick is a smart and diligent boy. When in a difficult situation, He is the person on which you can count on . He is quick thinking and sharp witted, all the more reasons to love his character. Tim on the other hand is the total opposite of his younger brother. He is clumsy, bumbling and inarticulate. Still, his actions add humor and life to the story. Johnny Powers is one diligent and ruthless criminal but at times he seemed to me more like a mama boy than a colossally feared criminal. The comical way in which Anthony Horowitz described most of the characters cracked me up.On the whole, Public Enemy Number Two is a refreshing, fast paced, humorous, middle grade novel with lots of action that you won't be able to put down

I always read other reviews before I write mine, just to see what others thought of the book. It was interesting to see that for the most part younger readers, for whom this series was meant, tended to rate it higher than the adults who read it. Well, I'm a much older adult and I was enchanted by this wild tale, that is probably mostly improbable but not impossible in a book that is not science fiction. Like the first book in this series, there is a lot of puns, plays on words, and humor. Diamond Brothers book #2: Thirteen year-old Nick Simple, who is the brains behind the Diamond Brothers Detective Agency, is set up by the Scotland Yard detectives he tangled with in book #1, and finds himself jailed in Strangeday Hall Juvenile Detention for stealing a fabulous jewel. Meanwhile, his hapless (and witless) brother Tim has a real detective job this time- finding a rare peacock vase that disappeared from the British Museum. Nick's cell mate, by design, is London's Public Enemy Number One, Johnny Powers. His only chance of getting out of jail is to learn from Johnny the name of the notorious Fence that all of London's criminals deal with. Breaking out of jail is not a good idea, as Nick soon learns, and dealing with Ma Powers is even scarier.

WELL NICK FOUND OUT THAT HIS TEACHER MR.PALIS IS THE PERSON THE COPS BEEN LOOKING FOR.FOR 12 YEARS THE WHOLE SWAT BEEN ON The LOOK OUT FOR THIS CRIME SEEN.THANKS TO NICK SIMPLE HE HELPED THE FBI AND COPS BEEN LOOKING FOR.. I THINK THE 13YEAR OLD BOY NAMED NICK(DIAMOND)SIMPLE WAS THE MOST INTERESTING CHARACTER IN THE BOOK.AT FIRST YOU MAY THINK THAT NICK IS A DUMB BOY THAT JUMP OFF A PLANE WHILE HIM AND HIS MOTHER AND FATHER WERE GOING TO SPEND TIME WITH THEM IN FRANCE.BUT HE WAS ACTUALLY THE FIRST YOUNGEST BOY TO BE FRAMED ,TRIED AND SENT TO JAIL, MENACED ,CHASED,SHOT AT ,KIDNAPPED ,KNOCKED OUT, TIED TO A RAILWAY TRACK, ALMOST BLOWNED UP,MENACED SOME MORE, TIED UP AGAIN ,HALF DROWNED,AND EXHAUSTED.

tPublic Enemy Number Two is a mystery novel by Anthony Horowitz. It is part of the Diamond Brothers series, which focuses on Nick Diamond, a fourteen year old boy who lives with his private detective brother. In this book, Nick is framed for a jewel robbery by two police men who want him to get near a convict named Johnny Powers. While in jail, Nick shares a cell with Powers, and becomes involved in his escape plans. After escaping, Nick and Tim are caught in the middle of a gang war between Powers’ gang and a rival group. I think that the conflict in this book is mainly external because Nick is trying to escape from jail and find out Powers’ plans.tI thought this book was very well written. It used very clever and catchy dialogue that is typical of a fourteen year old boy. The plot is suspenseful and exciting, and I was on the edge of my chair throughout the book. The book was very funny, and gave a very accurate description of the setting, which is modern day London. I would recommend this book to all readers who like a good mystery. tI think this book is a lot like the Harry Potter series because Nick is accused of something he did not do, like in The Chamber of Secrets. Throughout the whole book, Nick is trying to clear his name by finding out who Johnny’s supplier is, which reminds me of Harry trying to find out who the real heir of Slytherin is. I really enjoyed this book. 263

1) I really enjoyed the book Public Enemy number 2 because the author describes every scene carfully and adds details. For example when Nick was on a class trip and then a necklance landed in his hands. He ran and the author said that he jumped into a lions area and then the warden came and knocked out Nick. Another example is that Johhny tied a white towel in one of the guards mouth and takes him hostage. They bring down the draw brigde and then throw the guard at the others and jump into a car.2) You would like this book if you liked mystery because Nick has to find out who the Fence is and then find teh purple bird stolen from a muesum. I say his because they have to get Powers to talk.4) One charcter Ma Powers is insane because she has a machine gun in her bag and randomly stars firing at police cars. I say she needs some theropy. She is creepy.
