Polar Bears Past Bedtime (2003) - Plot & Excerpts

Did I enjoy this book: This is the first “chapter book” that we read to our nearly 3-year-old son. We read it over the course of three nights (bedtime story), and he loves it! Polar Bears Past Bedtime is the twelfth of the Magic Tree House series, so the beginning of the story was a little confusing because we didn’t have any background knowledge about the series, but that didn’t detract from the story. My young one was excited to follow the story of Annie and Jack through their arctic adventures. There was enough mystery and plot to keep him interested despite the fact that there’s only one page of pictures per chapter. The chapters have just enough content without being too long and a few cliff-hangers to urge young readers to keep reading. As a parent, I enjoyed the fact that Polar Bears Past Bedtime interjects interesting facts about the arctic into the story. Not only was my child having fun reading about an adventure, he was also learning about husky dogs, polar bears, and the native seal hunters of the arctic. This is a neat way to increase knowledge and vocabulary in a fun and kind of sneaky way. Learning is always easier to do (and more effective) when it’s fun!Would I recommend it: This is a good book for parents to read to kids with a good attention span. It would also be good for young readers (say, 2nd grade level) who are looking to read chapter books on their own.As reviewed by Sara at Every Free Chance Books. http://everyfreechance.com/2015/02/st...

It's been a long time since I've read a Magic Tree House book and I have to admit that I expected this to be pretty awful. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I enjoyed Jack and Annie and their polar adventure. In this entry, Jack and Annie travel to the arctic, learning about arctic animals and life. After they return home and solve the riddles, Morgan le Fay makes them members of the Society of Master Librarians. Many series books for early readers are repetitive, which makes them boring to torturous for adults to read. This particular series skips a lot of the series and plot repetition and favors clear, easy to read sentences.I used to silently groan when students asked me to find a specific Magic Tree House number. Now that I've read one, I better understand why students want to read the books in order. Within the series, there are arcs that really do benefit from being read straight through. I'll certainly have more patience and understanding the next time I'm hunting for that numbered book. ***This month, I'm tackling a bunch of early chapter series. I recommend them all the time to my first and second graders but I'm ashamed to admit that I myself haven't read many of them. So onward and upward in my quest to be a better read librarian!***

My family has one dog as a pet. I can get along with him well in family members. He can't speak language, but maybe he can understand what I talk. However, I don't know what he bark.Q2: Do you want to go to Arctic? Why or why not?A2: Yes, I want to go there because I also want to see polar bears and play with them!! It was easy for me to read:) I am not good at reading a book, but I can read this series. So I want to read other books of this series!

Jack was sleeping and he heard a sound outside of the window. When he looked outside he could see an owl in the tree. The owl was making a lot of noise and Jack thought the owl was trying to tell him something. He went to Annie's room for help because she can understand the animals. The owl took Jack's backpack and Annie and Jack follow the owl to the Magic Tree House. When they get there they have a flashlight and they find Morgan inside the tree house. Morgan tells them that she has a mission for them to go to the ocean in Antarctica and to solve a riddle. When Jack and Annie get there they meet a man that is a seal hunter and he gives them warm clothes to wear because they were in their pajamas. Then Jack and Annie meet the man's nine Siberian Huskies and they get to ride the dog sled. Jack and Annie also get to see the seal hunter's igloo. When Annie wanders off she finds two baby polar bears. when Jack finds her he starts to play with them too. Then the cubs disappear somewhere so Jack and Annie try to follow them. Then Jack and Annie meet the mother polar bear. Afterwards the ice starts to crack so the mother polar bear puts her cubs on her back and she slides on her stomach on the ice. Jack and Annie go on their stomachs too with masks on and they feel like they are flying. Jack and Annie solve the riddle that Morgan gave them.

Jack and Annie go to the Magic Tree House for an adventure. The Magic Tree House lets them travel to different places and different times. This time they find themselves in the Arctic. A seal hunter shows up with a sled and some warm clothes for them. Jack had a scrol with a riddle on it. It said I cover what's real and hide what's true. But sometimes I bring out the courage in you. What am I? He also had a book that told them about the Arctic that helped them know what to do. They have some adventures and find some polar bear cubs. They start to slide around and play with them. Then they hear the ice below them start to crack? How will they get to safety? Will they solve the riddle? You'll have to read the book. This book is very interesting. I haven't read any of the Magic Tree House books before. It's very fun to read, and it is also very informational. It teaches kids about polar bears and why they do some of the things they do, and how peole live in the arctic. You are learning and you don't even realize it.
